Seen while walking:

Chrysanthemum from holidays past:
Our bee house has more occupants although they are predatory wasp larva rather than bees:
Who knew a long bean's blossom was beautiful:
We made a Low Country boil on Saturday & my queen made eggrolls with the leftover crab meat, shrimp & corn. They were delicious:

May 2026: The First Week
Seen while walking The Wasteland -
Raider camp:
Meanwhile, back at the homestead -
Volunteer pumpkin:
Friday harvest:
Impulse buy at the grocery store:
Another year, another opossum. We relocated it far enough away that it isn't likely to find its way back to our garden:
I have never seen a fly with this coloration before. It looks like a some variety of soldier fly:
The Red Menace lurking in wait:
We gave up trying to grow hostas and other shade plants under our weeping cherry. The plants were always struggling so we added cypress mulch and three fragrant flowering shrubs that are supposed to be able to stand the abuse from the cherry:
We made chicken broth with bay leaves & walking onions from our garden:
A Ruby-throated hummingbird visiting our firecracker plant:
Just grilling in the rain:
December 2025: The Weeks Before Christmas
Seen while walking:
Making chicken broth because broth is a cooking essential like salt, pepper, onions & garlic:
It was unseasonably warm the Saturday before the winter solstice so my queen & I scouted out some new fishing spots near Senatobia, Mississippi. We didn't catch anything... probably because the recent cold conditions still had the fish lethargic but we did find some locations we want to try in the Spring & it was a beautiful day to be out in nature:
October 2025: The First Week
Seen while walking:
Friday harvest:
Saturday fishing trip:
Saturday catch - eight largemouth bass, fifteen bluegill & one warmouth:
The warmouth was a surprise because I thought the lake's fish population was largely from stocked fish but apparently it connects to a nearby wild creek when the water is high:
Something new in the backyard garden. We're giving long beans a try:
It took me a little longer than usual but Halloween has arrived at our home:
My Halloween homage to my father & his favorite dog, Pepper:
