Danny was trying to not freak out, however -- as was the case more often than not, it seemed -- trying was not synonymous to succeeding.
The last thing he remembered before waking up was shock. He didn’t remember pain. He didn’t remember transforming into whatever he was now. He just remembered everything going white and his mind deciding it wasn’t going to stick around for whatever his body was going through. Before that -- he remembered messing with his parents’ stuff.
Usually, he’d declare himself uninterested in whatever his parents’ were up to. He’d make it known to them, to his sister, and to anyone that was around to hear it, that he didn’t want anything to do with their weird, freaky magic experiments. He didn’t understand why two people who were seemingly so skilled with technology would dedicate their lives to something so archaic. Not when they had the potential to be ferociously successful if they would just switch their focus to something that was in much higher demand. Not when their ridiculous research made everyone think they were a couple of lunatics who were raising a lunatic son.
Something about their latest project, though, seemed different to Danny. Something about it made him curious beyond his usual nature. They said they’d found some sort of portal -- or a well or something -- that would lead them to a source from which they could draw the power they’d been lacking. It sounded like this could be the thing that made all their past failures worth it. If this thing did what they said it could do, then maybe it would turn the Fenton’s lives around . . .
Well, it turned Danny’s life around, that was for sure -- and not in the way it was supposed to.
Fortunately for Danny, soon after he turned into this glowy-eyed, snowy-haired, spectral disaster, his high school had been demolished by itself in the form of a dragon and subsequently miraculously reconstructed by the only boy for who-knew-how-many miles who seemed to have some control over the unpredictable force that got Danny into this predicament in the fist place.
“So basically . . . after I heard what Ian did, I thought he’d be able to help me out . . . and well -- he sorta said that you were the quest guy --” Just like that old game Danny used to play, “ -- and I, uh -- if it’s gonna take a quest, or whatever, to change me back to normal then . . . I guess that’s what I have to do.”
