Okie so my friend wasn’t entirely wrong, I found several things saying that it’ll be at least a year.
Like this I found: On March 1, 2023, Shannon Messenger announced that the book would be delayed due to her second baby but confirmed that the book would eventually be released. On February 16, 2024, Shannon Messenger announced Book 9.5 which delays Book 10 back at least another year.
So she was kinda right kinda wrong
You know, as proudly tropey (that's what we say instead of "cliched" when we like it) example of its genre Cyberpunk 2077 is, one cool bit of world building that I think at least somewhat adresses the underlying xenophobia of the whole "Japan is gonna take over" genre staple, is the revelation that Japan itself hasn't actually benefitted from the Arasaka corporation, it bled the nation dry just as it did any other. "Never put faith in the patriotism of the capital" indeed.

I love it, honestly. I love that Cyberpunk (the game) itself is everything to the extreme. Everything taken a bit too far.
It also goes to show at the time cyberpunk was rally getting its foot off the ground, Anime was really making the genre its own too, capturing it in a way no one else could. So it's totally within reason to want to follow in those footsteps. Also, with such a technological boom during that time, it could easily be seen why they and nearly everyone else thought that. So I think it's less xenophobic and more as a nod to the others in the space. However, I sometimes like to believe in things being more innocent than maybe they are.... Anyway.
Strange how that works? Seems until aliens give us our next jump, we're gonna be stuck with the shitty cyberpunk dystopia a while longer. How did we get here?
