I do not see the correlation between banning costumes for adults and "safety". Someone may yet smuggle a gun or bomb under their precious little innocent cherub's (i.e. kid's) costume, and people who have smuggled guns and/or bombs into there place of attack weren't wearing anything resembling costumes at the time. Lots of families like to dress up together for MNSSHP and afults loved the opportunity kids or no kids to more than just Disneybound.
Maybe making something a little more clear here might shed some light.
Things that CHANGED in Disney security:
--Metal detectors
--increased security and Reedy Creek’s presence around property
--no guns sold on property, even toys
Things that did NOT change, but Disney will now be strictly enforcing:
--No costumes over the age of 14 rule
This rule has literally always been a thing. If you don’t believe me, there is a post floating around that an angry CM made about how it’s not funny to try and cosplay in the parks, it just pisses off CM’s, made over a year ago. Disney was just a little lax with it. Now, Disney is going to strictly enforce the no costumes rule.
The decision concerning MNSSHP has not been made yet.
And, to be honest anon, you are correct in that costumes for children still present a bit of a problem. I am hoping that noting happens where some monster of a human being would try to smuggle a weapon under a kids costume, forcing us to ban kid costumes too. With some new security technology, it shouldn’t been too difficult to keep allowing small humans to wear costumes.
I guess my point here is that we did not ban costumes recently, its always been the rule. The reason for the rule is to not make it easier to smuggle something in. While the person in the MK incident was not wearing a costume, his clothes allowed security to be able to pick out the shape of a gun. That is the point.
It is sad we have to go to such measures, but if there is one thing that Disney will not tolerate is press about how their parks aren’t safe.
