Creative writing for the first time in 6 years turns out to be trickier than I thought.
Apparently, it doesn't matter how much you read in English; your grasp of the English language is still going to feel very faint the moment you start hitting the keys on that keyboard trying to make fiction happen.
Rereading my WIP that I haven't touched in 7 years turns out to be another challenge. It seems that Chaos 7 years ago had another literary style than current Chaos. For one thing, she wrote the characters very, very introspective. And very awkwardly and confusedly kinky. Part of me wants to rewrite the entire thing before continuing, but that somehow feels like taking something from Chaos 7 years ago, so I'll settle for some light editing on obvious errors.
I still stand by the confusion and awkwardness, though.
And I'm currently on my third draft of the first chapter in over 7 years. I actually had to scrap the two previous drafts since the idea I had was too advanced for my current ability to use English grammar in a fictive text.
I think this is what we called Beginner's Mind in DBT...
