#second destroyers

I think that the 2nd Destroyers are very messed up people that have had some major trauma in their lives as a whole, and I feel sorry for them tbh.

Every backstory we see of a Destroyer is tragic and maddening.

Minimi’s mother was abused and humiliated by loansharks and swindlers so often that it drove Minimi to the brink of killing two grown men at the age of what appears to be 7-9 years old. And his mother became so crazed at the idea of being free, and being able to keep her money that he joined the Destroyers to give her all the money he could. There’s no other motive for killing Twilights other than to literally see his mother smile.

And Maverick is fueled by vengance for her foster brother, who was the only one who’d accepted her and loved her like family, even saved her from her foster parents’ abuse before a Twilight “Hagure” brutally killed him…just….read cursed if you haven’t Skippy, it delves so deep into these poor children’s lives istg).

Marco is under the impression from a VERY young age that Twilights are evil and vile and killing them would save humanity from a great toil. He’s literally almost crazy with this belief.

(There’s not much said about Striker and Beretta just yet, but they’re obviously batshit crazy, so something must have broken them lol)

They’re just all very tragic and broken, and while obviously their cause is horrible and terrifying, it’s hard not to sympathize them.

But as for the 3rd Destroyers, they don’t seem to be as…..hurt and dead inside as the 2nd seemed to be. I think it’s possible that they all joined under Striker’s lead, and don’t have a cause other than their disgust for Twilights and a desire to kill.

I think Colt seems to have some sociopathic tendencies, in his almost bored blank expression while killing, no emotion shown throughout the manga at all really.

And I think Sig just has grown up with an integral disgust for twilights, whether she was molded into this mindset or something triggered it…I’m not certain.

Striker and Beretta just seem to have gone off the rails completely, and they’re just absolutely insane. I don’t know their motives, I don’t know why their so hateful, but they’re very intriguing characters and I hope to know more about them soon.

And Emilio is especially hard to pin down. He doesn’t actually seem to be as….passionate about this cause as the others do. We haven’t seen him fight (at least I haven’t, something seems to have happened in the raws that is quite substantial *cough cough RUBY cough cough*), he seems disgusted by any kind of violence he sees, not just against normals (Connie) - upon witnessing Erica’s slaughter of many Twilights during the Bastard raid, he seems absolutely horrified…

..and tells Uranos later that “splatter films” aren’t his thing (…lol nice choice of words Emilio, real smooth). So it’s hard to say why he joined the Destroyers exactly. Whether it was to enact revenge for whatever happened to his mother, or something we don’t even know about yet, something that may have happened with Alex…I just don’t know honestly. He’s such a mystery I don’t know what to make of him yet.
