give me a latine topic and ill share my thoughts on it or start a conversation with other people.
what do you think about notre dame burning?
i mean. it sucks!!! but like im not attached to it so like….also its not DESTROYED. its probably gonna be fine.Â
If we are gonna talk about destructions that i really felt emotionally connected, i just think about the lost of the brazilian museum:
“It was the biggest natural history museum in Latin America. We have invaluable collections. Collections that are over 100 years old,” Cristiana Serejo, one of the museum’s vice-directors, told the G1 news site.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the fire began. The museum was part of Rio’s Federal University but had fallen into disrepair in recent years. Its impressive collections included items brought to Brazil by Dom Pedro I – the Portuguese prince regent who declared the then-colony’s independence from Portugal – Egyptian and Greco-Roman artefacts, “Luzia”, a 12,000 year-old skeleton and the oldest in the Americas, fossils, dinosaurs, and a meteorite found in 1784. Some of the archive was stored in another building but much of the collection is believed to have been destroyed.
Mércio Gomes, an anthropologist and former president of Brazil’s indigenous agency, Fundação Nacional do Índio (FUNAI), compared the loss to the burning of the library of Alexandria in 48BC. “We Brazilians only have 500 years of history. Our National Museum was 200 years old, but that’s what we had, and what is lost forever,” he wrote on Facebook.
Like, thats not only a big lost for Brazil and Latinoamerica. I’ve seen people saying that the notre dame thing had some kind of meaning? like, no. It was probably an accident. This destruction of this museum has a meaning, the fire was started probably because the goverment “didnt have” money for maintenance AND they couldnt save ANYTHING (only the meteorite, i think, because well, its a fucking meteorite) because the firefighters did not have enough water. Like, if you are talking about a destruction having a meaning, this was a representation of the goverment of Brazil not caring about their culture, history and education. This event was ACTUALLY a big scar for brazilians because it could have been easily avoided, and the fact that it happend and how it happend, its just a reflection of their realities. This can’t be “fixed”, i don’t know how much they are gonna actually care for it (unlike the notre dame) because they just let it go down without caring.Â
Not saying that what happend to notre dame can’t hurt, or is nothing, but some people are going tooo far with it. No, is not the end of the world. No, is not the end of humanity. I’ve seen people comparing the burning of notre dame to the 9/11 attack. Like, can you all chill a bit? fuck.Â

You know no one was talking about the Amazon fire before because Brazil's government supressed the info and kept it from getting out, right? It only recently was able to just get out. Sometimes things like that are why no one is talking about an issue, censorship of information is nasty, yeah? Thats a pretty big problem.
I would appreciate this kind of information if i didnt recognize the suble tone of “this is why i shouldn’t be blamed for this”. Even if you didnt meant to, thats how you decided to talk about this. You shouldnt use things about censorship and dictatorship tactics to defend yourself or others of not knowing and blaming the people that speak about this problem. You should talk about the censorship as a problem that needs to be addressed, not only use it when people feel “attacked”.
For the topic of censorship, i will let @punksudaca or ANY brazilian that wants to express themselves or talk about this topic. Be aware of that: i can actually TALK to them, those posts are ALLOWED, there IS brazilians who you can talk to. I have a BUNCH of brazilians mutuals, i don’t tag them because i don’t know if they have the energy to talk about this, but i know that logan is willing to. Brazilians aren’t a mythical creature that you aren’t allowed to talk to or they don’t talk the same language as you.Â
Let me tell you one thing, also. I’ve seen “not” guilty tripping posts get lost. And i’ve seen “guilt tripping” posts get a LOT of attention. Even if people don’t like it, you can’t deny that it works to gain popularity on those topics that are probably gonna be gone in a week. I appreciate the message, but the tone is unnecesary, it really changes the intention that you seem to want to communicate.Â
Latine hot take: a lot of latines (esp if they're involved in anglo communities in social media) need to reevaluate what race means to them and the context of their country. Like i technically can say im mixed bc my dad is brown but im extrenely white passing and that's what really matters here in Arg. And a lot of white (passing) latines treat race as like, a label they can take if they feel like it when using tumblr/twitter/etc. But are you really affected by racism? Do you face colorism?
I don't want misunderstandings so just to make it clear: this isn't about latines living in the US. I'm specifically talking about the context of Latin America
yes, yes, yes. the “we are all the same, all mixed” is getting a new line of thoughts in here and thats fucking dangerous. I’ve seen people claim that they are person of color, that they are indigenous and.........ma’m u don’t care about indigenous people and their issues in our country. u are seen as another white here. if you want to get in touch with your ancestors nobody is stopping you but know your place and your privilages. whitepassing, 98% of the time doesnt apply here. white and whitepassing latines were part of the problem in history. people know this but they find some kind of comfort/brownie points in social media saying that, because they love to pretend that they can and they don’t want to face the many privilages that they have. im praying to not find shit like “#decolonize! stop calling yourself latino thats a colonist term!!~” in those circles because. shut up. u never faced racism in your life lmao. learn what is your place in those conversations. this is the only times i use the “whitepassing” term for myself, to call them out on their bullshit.Â
