literally nightmare weekend
So me, Sean and Tom went to Nottingham uni at the weekend for some journalism course and every little thing went wrong. and it was really not our fault at all.Â
okay so first my train into Hull was 10 mins late and they didnt hold the connection train, so i missed that and had to then work out another way of getting to Nottingham. and it was far too early to actually make my brain work as well
then, finally got to Notts station before the Sean and Tom, so waited for their train, at which they then didnt meet me and managed to leave the station before realising "shit where's holly". that was great.
we went to the bus station and was working out what bus we needed when a bus information guy came out and asked us if we needed help, so we told him we were looking for the uni and he gave us directions and told us what bus' to get and everything. we then got the bus into town, werent sure where we had to get off to change, so got off as soon as we reached the city centre (BAD MOVE). it then took us forever to find the other bus we needed, but i think we found it eventually. and it took us to the WRONG nottingham university. and we had told the bus guy University of Nottingham, and he'd given us directions to Nottingham Trent Uni.
so we were in the wrong place and at this point we thought we needed to be there by 1pm, and it was half 12 now, so i entered the uni into my phone on google maps, and it came up saying it was 10 minutes away, which we were just like YES THIS MIGHT WORK. followed my gps thing, and it took us to the University of Nottingham's adult learning centre thing in town. not the actual uni.Â
we also thought at this point that we needed to be at the "Jubilee Campus", so headed back into town to find a bus to get us there and WE FOUND ONE. and thought YES WE MIGHT BE THERE IN TIME (cuz we were srsly running outa time by this point). Got to the campus, and it was empty. noone was there. we eventually found a security guard who directed us to the right campus- we needed to be at the main one, and he said itd take a few minutes in the car and then we said we werent in one, and his face just dropped. that was worrying. we also then checked and discovered we had til half 1, which srsly was so lucky.by this point though we were stressed but couldnt stop giggling. so bad.
EVENTUALLY we were at the right campus, and had like 15 mins to find the rright place so took a chance at guessing WHICH ACTUALLY WORKED, got there bang on time were told we were the last three to sign in but HELL we were there at least. we were then told to put our luggage elsewhere and then the entire group would be heading over to the lecture theatre. well we put our luggage away, came out again and the ENTIRE group had left without us. it was literally unreal how 80 students just disappeared, but they managed it. so we then had to go back and get a map and even then got super lost looking for this place. found it in the end and was only 10 minutes late, pretty good considering the size of the campus and how we had no clue where we were going.
we then realised, we'd turned up to a lecture without paper. i had a pen but sean had the paper that we were gunna borrow, but in the rush he'd forgotten it. so we had to embarrassingly ask for some paper. and even then the other two didnt have a pen. really not good.
the next morning, we thought things would actually go alright. very wrong. we had breakfast at about the latest possible time, and then headed off to our first lecture which, according to Sean, started at 9.15. yeah it didnt. it started at 9 and we were gunna be 15 mins late so just skipped it as we were bored of being late for things and having to walk in awkwardly.Â
for the rest of the morning though things ACTUALLY WENT ALRIGHT. Went to the next 2 lectures fine, got the bus into town fine, went shopping for a bit, everything was actually going right. Then we decided to get an earlier train to Grantham so we'd have more time there and have no chance of a late train making us miss our connection to Doncaster (ala me in Hull), so we got an earlier train and was 3/4 of the way to Doncaster when the ticket guy came, we showed him our tickets WHICH WERE COMPLETELY VALID ON THAT TRAIN, and he was like "great can i see your seat reservations now?" and we didnt have any. not cuz we werent supposed to be on that train, cuz it was identical to the one we shoulda got, but cuz the train company hadnt given us them. So this guy got annoyed and was trying to make us pay another fare and we just argued until he gave up. I was fed up of having useless tickets and we just werent gunna pay for summat that wasnt our fault at all.
we practically ran off that train. we hadnt done anything wrong but we still did. We were now at Grantham waiting for our Doncaster train in the sun, with plenty of time and one of us, i think Tom, actually said "nothing else can go wrong now." or summat to that effect and woah how wrong was that. We were sitting there and then over the tannoy we heard "the 17.10 train to Doncaster has been delayed by 9 minutes due to being stuck behind a broken down train." we kinda thought hmmm, we should check what time our connection to Driffield leaves. Our Grantham train was due in at 17.56 and our one to Driffield was due to leave at 17.57. I think that was the time we started laughing uncontrollably. but then we realised if we missed our train, we couldnt actually get home. at which we started worrying and stressing. i think i was shaking at one point.Â
so this train pulled in and we got on and just stood by the door, as we werent about to split up and sit in our reserved seats and we also werent gunna not be first off that train when it pulled into Doncaster. I think the train managed to make up like 2 minutes en route to Doncaster, which gave us more time to find our connection. When we pulled into Doncaster us three were the first by the doors of our carriage and the first off and at first we were just speed walking but a group of lads who were also getting our connection started running, at which we joined in. we werent gunna miss our train simply cuz we didnt run. So we sprinted through this underpass to the next platform where our train was and when we got onto the platform and realised it hadnt left OHMYGOD, i think i cried with relief and we were all still giggling about an hour later when we'd been on that train and tryna calm down all that time,
so everything did work out but OHMYGOD THE MOST STRESSFUL WEEKEND EVER. Nothing actually went right for us but hell we coulda missed that last train and itd been worse. im exhausted just thinking about it again
