Sokka's hand instinctively rose to the carved necklace resting against his neck, his fingers brushing over the smooth bone pieces as a smile spread across his face. “Thanks.” His thumb lingered against the carving. “I didn't make this one. My dad did. He gave it to me as a becoming a man gift before he left for the war.” There was unmistakable pride in his voice as he caressed it.
“Every line carved into it means something—where I come from, who my family is, the kind of man I'm supposed to be,” he chuckled, “kind of hard to lose your way when you've got a reminder hanging around your neck every day.”
His gaze drifted back to Moana, warmth settling easily into his features. Somewhere along the way, she'd become family to him, and he loved her as though she'd always been his little sister. He’d made a promise to himself that he'd spend the rest of his life making sure nothing ever happened to her.
“I've made plenty of necklaces myself, though,” he added, the teasing spark returning to his eyes. “If you ever want one, all you've gotta do is ask.” His grin widened as he lightly bumped her shoulder. “I'd make one for you without thinking twice.”
