How Do You Transport a Giant Gerbil Through the Ocean? 15-21 Jan
The room had been filled with air. The Lowardens had kept Gnomenasher in it, keeping him alive, keeping him trapped. I had never expected it to be that way. I had expected them to have fitted him with something to help him breath as the Merapolian had done to us. So the air-filled room, now opened to the ocean, began to fill with water and stream air out. If we waited another second, Gnomenasher would surely be killed. Fortunately Tam realized this as soon as did (perhaps sooner) and the two of us rushed inside, closing the door behind us.
The door sealed shut. The room was half-filled with water. And while Tam and I could conceivably keep breathing the oxygen in the water, Gnomenasher still needed the air to breath and we just greatly reduced the amount of oxygen in the room. One would imagine, though, that the Lowardians were pumping air into this room, otherwise Gnomenasher probably would have died from CO2 poisoning hours ago. So, that meant there was a chance the room might even pump the water out of the room as well.
Unfortunately, getting out of there was still a problem. We had to leave at some point, not only because we all wanted to get back to their homes, but also because the Lowardians would eventually find us and imprison us, at the best. "Can you get Gnomenasher out of here safely?"
"Are you asking if I can somehow magically carry that big pile of meat out of here while somehow keeping him from drowning in that ocean of water we have to swim through and keeping him from being killed by the army of other dimensional beings that want us all to die?" Tam asked.
"I wouldn't have used the word 'magically', but, yes, can you keep him from drowning and being shot?"
"And how do you think I can do that while also trying to escape?"
"I don't know. A force field?"
"And I'd keep him from suffocating inside it, how?"
"The same way you keep yourself from suffocating."
"Frank," Tam replied, "I've been bioengineered to survive under extreme conditions. Your giant rabbit here, hasn't it. He's going to die if we take him out there."
"Ok. So then what are we going to do?"

Labors 14
And it came to pass that as the Dudes were running around making obscene gestures at people, and the grateful people were making equally obscene gestures at them, that the Gods of Hondo appeared before them as a two-headed Plumed Serpent, and said unto them: ‘Hail Dudes! And a big fuckin’ Hell Yeah! For thou hast saved all or Reality from a fate worse than the Rosy O’Donnell Show. ‘The stranger hath been waiting to show thee thy final and most difficult labor. This one shall challenge thee in ways which art utterly mind-boggling.’ And the Gods of Hondo didst transport the Dudes to a room. For there were no doors or windows in the room, nor any other means by which it couldst be exited. ‘Thou must findeth a way to exit this room,’ spake the God of Hamster Cock. ‘Thou hast one hour to solve the stranger’s riddle.’ ‘Or else…’ spake the God of Nipples. And so the Gods of Hondo didst vanish from their midst, and the Dudes were left alone to solve the puzzle, for all that was in the room was a mirror and a table. ‘This is simple,’ quoth RJ, and he didst use the Hyper-X Buttplate against the walls. But ’twas no use, as the walls, floor, and even the ceiling were too thick to blast. ‘How shall we do this?’ quoth Scoot, and he didst quantemplate. But even Nori couldst not think of a way out of the stranger’s room. And it came to pass that the Dudes didst become desperate as time was running out. ‘There is no way we canst do this,’ quoth Oreamnos Americanus. ‘Wait a minute!’ quoth Casey in a stroke of brilliance. ‘I knoweth this one!’ ‘ ’Tis nice to know thou knoweth something,’ quoth Nori. And the Dudes didst laugh at him. And Casey didst look in the mirror to see what he saw. He didst use the saw to cutteth the table in half. Two halves maketh a whole, and he didst crawl out the hole. And the Dudes didst follow after him. ‘Well, that was rather anti-climactic,’ quoth Nori. And there was much rejoicing. ‘Yes!’ cried Scoot. ‘We have won the bet and beaten all of the stranger’s challenges! Now we canst all go home!’ And so the Dudes didst all go home to await the return of the Gods of Hondo, and any tidings of their bet with the stranger.
Fantastic Fest 2015: Zinzana
How to make a nation's first genre film
If you don't know much about the cinema of the United Arab Emirates, it's not surprising. But Zinzana (aka Rattle the Cage), the whip-smart sealed room noir with a deliciously black sense of humor, could change all that.
AC: Zinzana is such a sealed room drama. The camera only leaves the police station once, always either on Talal or Dabaan.
MAA: One of the reasons I wanted to do this was because it was a container film. I was watching Phone Booth and I was watching Panic Room, and any container that's done well is done well because it's planned. As a first-timer, I think it would be an accomplishment to make a container film, because everyone would expect it would be basic. But I wanted it to make it as kickass as possible, and having this restriction would only mean you have to find creative ways of making it fast or making it slow or making it tense. We did a lot of planning to shoot in that space, and if this was the location, I literally divided it into squares, and planned from scene one to the end of the film to make sure we don't repeat shots, that it's very interactive. It's in the same space, but it looks new. It's in the same space, but it feels like a new location.
Another method I wanted to use is that I wanted the free camera. Even though it's a container film, the location would never dictate my camera. It would flow wherever it wants. Through bars, through the sprinkler, go through the wall.
RY: It's the only free character in the film.
