I hope everyone enjoys this snippet from the next chapter of Thawed Hearts which is coming along slowly but surely!! I am in deadline hell at the moment but I've got about 2/3 of it written and am hoping to finish it once I'm free later this month :D (it's full of angst, I'm so sorry)

“I can see why.” Steve said. He sighed. “I just don’t know how to step off the pedestal. It’s not me that anyone remembers; they assume the soldier is me and they expect me to act one way because of his reputation from all the propaganda campaigns.” “I hope we at the Institute have never made you feel like that.” Ororo put a hand on his shoulder. He shook his head. “No, not you. The kids though… I mean, Rogue was scared to speak to me because she thought I’d be like the boys at her school who idolize me—and that’s not her fault, obviously—but it has made me worry about what kind of legacy I’ve left. Did I really do any good if the people who rally behind my image are the same sort of people as the ones I was fighting. I mean really—football players who pressure girls and bully mutants for being different?” He scoffed. “What was it all for if the world is still full of this mindless hate?” At his side Ororo was silent, but her hand still rested on his shoulder, providing some small comfort.  “We cannot choose our legacies,” she said at last, “because they are always written by those in power. The masses remember you as the Soldier because that is how the military wanted you to be remembered, just as the head shaman made sure the Bakunto tribe remembered me as an all-powerful goddess instead of the uncertain teenager that I was. You can never predict who will be in power in the future, so you must focus on living in the present and making the best choices you can at any given moment.”

ohhhh yes I'd love to write something for them!! Inspiration hasn't really struck (tolkien fic is hard for me) but here's a couple lines that popped into my head!

Celebrían knows her husband doesn't sleep well, especially on winter nights when the darkness creeps into every corner. When she wakes (as she so often does) and the bed beside her is cold, she brings him tea in the library and sits with him for as long as he wants her there. She wishes she could drive the darkness away from him forever, but since she cannot, she settles for holding up a candle against it.
