Hi hello there! Welcome to my little corner!

This guide is intended as a little introduction to the common tags I use so your experience around here is as smooth as possible. (and also to remind me what tags I've used for content warnings) I've been meaning to make this for a while, and I hope it's helpful and not too long and ramble-y :)

THE GUIDE:

On reblogs I tag fandom and often characters, but if a lot of characters are mentioned/included in the post I tend to get lazy and not tag them. Also I'm much more diligent about tagging certain characters than others (check out #arwen there's a lot of lovely stuff in there). An important note: my fandom tag for Lord of the Rings (a staple on the blog) is just #lotr because it's quicker to type. :)

On my own posts I tag fandom and all relevant characters, plus my art/writing/thoughts tag.

My art tag is #seagull.art

My writing tag is #seagull.writing

My meta/commentary/random ramblings tag is #seagull.thoughts

Other people's art and writing are tagged with #other people's art and #other people's writing respectively (very unoriginal lol)

Anything with flashing that might harm photosensitive people will be tagged #flash warning (if I miss this on anything PLEASE tell me about it, I don't want anyone to get hurt)

Anything with gore will be tagged #gore warning

General heads up for swearing and possible innuendo in things I reblog, but I don't reblog or post anything explicitly nsfw.

I do post about current events and politics sometimes. I don't have a consistent tag for this though.

A FEW NOTES:

I don't use the queue. Like, at all. I come on here at random times and reblog as much as I want. Sometimes it's one thing, sometimes it's 15 things, but it's never going to be well spaced or consistent.

The only fandoms I post about with any kind of regularity are LotR, Star Trek, and BotW; everything else is very sporadic and appears when the mood takes me.

Not a navigation thing, but asks are always welcome! Same for replies and additions to my original posts. Come say hi! I don't bite :)

This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.

OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.

And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.

Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.

One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.

And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.

I had a very odd comment out of the blue on this post last week. Someone I'd never heard of, commenting that my very niche original fiction chapter which relies quite a bit on prior knowledge of the rest of Two of a Kind, was 'very me'.

(it's worth nothing that the only information they included in their comment was in the post itself, there was nothing from the linked chapter on AO3, so I was pretty certain they hadn't actually read it)

me: well, maybe they're a lurker. unlikely, though. they've only got a few posts and most of them are about beta reading services. @seagull-energy: they've got their comments visible and they're all random comments on people's fic posts, and they only seem to respond if someone accuses them of being AI or a bot, and they deny it. me: well, they would say that, wouldn't they? let's have some fun.

me: passive-aggression ahoy!

them: silence until this morning and then this:

me: seriously? SERIOUSLY? hey, @seagull-energy, LOOK AT THIS! @seagull-energy: oh my GOD. I want to chime in. but HOW me: yeah, I don't know how to show them up more without giving them more information about the story. but. "making them afraid will make them more racist" that's wild to me, because we live in a whole culture of social consequences for antiracism anyway. It is literally safer to be a racist than it is to speak up against it, socially.

Idk about you, but "I'm afraid no one will want to be my friend if I'm a white supremacist" seems like a pretty logical thought process to have, and I wish THAT were the normal and not "I'm afraid my friends will hate me if I tell them they made racist jokes".

I Wanted to make this post because KOSA (KIDS Act) was just passed by the House in the United States, and is moving onto the Senate. I know some folks don't know about this, so I'm going to attach links to the Act itself, as well as a link to a website explaining this without the legal jargon. Please look at the Act itself too if you can.

I'm not from the US but this will have ramifications for all countries moving forward.
