#sea synth

There are lots of soft synths, pads, and bowls here that one might expect from less energetic compositions. The first part of Raiders on the Moonsea sets a fast pace, despite percussion taking a backseat. When the drums do kick in, though, they do a great job of amplifying the energy. The excited sense of adventure established by the first part is shifted in the second, in which the tempo is dropped and the mood becomes more contemplative, but determined. The album does a lot with both parts, each of which have several smaller movements within them. Raiders on the Moonsea is, on the whole, quite good and pretty consistent—but the uniqueness of that first half really overshadows the slightly more traditional second half for me. Still absolutely worth checking out.

An interesting mix of serene and surreal, with the more melancholic, haunting sections being my favorite. It's quite short, and I think it could have made some of its best tracks longer, but it's a solid little EP of fairly unique dungeon synth.
