It is not clear to me if this life-size bronze sculpture is supposed to depict Santiago or simply a pilgrim on the way to Santiago de Compostela. It is sited adjacent to the route of the Camino Francés and in front of the complex of San Marcos, today a parador attached to a quite fine museum but originally built as a pilgrim hospice. The statue is staring toward the façade of the complex, one of the masterpieces of the plateresque in Spain.
