The statement catches him off-guard for a moment and he merely blinks, before smoothening out his expression again.
“No, you haven’t.”
There --- a simple, straightforward answer. No need for contemplation.

a love letter from Erik!! || @scriittore
Monsieur Wordsworth,
I extend my gratitude for the invitation to your wedding. Congratulations, Monsieur — I do hope married life will prove to be most pleasant for you and your bride. However, I write this to reply that I must decline. Public gatherings are ones I wish to avoid, you understand.
Regards and well wishes,
Erik
… ….. ……. … ….. …. ………..
( hastily scribbled as an afterthought; he has indulged in some wine and morphine, and has ripped the neatly folded letter open )
Why are you getting married? It is so quick, so sudden. Your interest in my mask was unexpected — jarring, almost — but it was new. Nobody has taken an interest, before. But then you had to meet Christine, and of course, you fell in love with her. Anyone would fall in love with her, for she is kind and gracious and everything a man wishes in his companion. But we — I thought we had developed something. I cannot put a name to it, but there was something. You are charming, the most idiotic man I have ever come across, and I… I suppose I was mistaken.
Have a charming life with your soon-to-be wife, Monsieur. I am sure you will not miss being alone.

leave mY BRIDE ALONE YOU HOT MASK
LISTEN YOU TINY CUTE MAN, DONT TELL ME WHAT TO DO
👫??? why not
Send a 👫and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship
1. Erik sometimes finds his thoughts slipping to Barnaby when he’s aimlessly playing the violin or stalking around the flies. Like, he wonders if Barnaby would be impressed by his skills or what kind of pun would be uttered at the sight of yet another sloppy stagehand. He thinks about their little drunk/high encounter a lot. And then he catches himself, shakes his head and firmly tells himself it means nothing.
2. Barnaby often stays late at the Opera House when everyone else is gone. Sometimes, Erik goes looking for him; sometimes he doesn’t. On the nights that he does find the playwright, however, he enjoys utilising his skills in magic — tipping a chair over, throwing his voice with whispers in the air. Barnaby usually gets quite unnerved and Erik heartily amused.
3. Once, he saw Christine pull Barnaby by the tie to plant a kiss on his lips. Intrigued and slightly desperate, Erik made sure to wear a tie the next time he was physically present around her. She didn’t kiss him, and though he had expected as much, it still left him bitter.
4. And there was one time when Erik filled Barnaby’s entire bedroom with thorny roses, glad that the man would step out of his room with bruises all over his feet. It was uncharacteristically stupid of him not to remember what other connotations sending roses came with.

He isn’t sure how this happened. He isn’t sure what caused this to occur, or what prompted the events of this night to occur.
But Erik suddenly finds himself being pushed into an empty closet by a rough, grabbing man who’s practically half his height.
Perhaps if he was sober, he would have been able to fend off the attack. Granted, even in his mindless haze --- a blissful serenity only ever induced by morphine --- he’s usually able to focus enough to push the offender away, perhaps twist an arm or two. But the man who’s currently pinning him to the wall is BARNABY --- Barnaby who’s attracted to him when no one else is, Barnaby who has flirted and blushed around him more times than he can count.
Barnaby who he is constantly confused by.
Still, his hands curl around the man’s arms with a silent threat, and the waft of alcohol is strong on Barnaby’s breath. “Good god, man, are you DRUNK?” he hisses --- though he isn’t one to talk, being deliriously high. Still, he forces himself to concentrate enough to spit out, “Get your hands off me, Wordsworth, before I cut them off for you.”
