Problem 1: Is It Acne, Allergies, Or Rosacea?
Rosacea can be easily mistaken for acne or seasonal allergies due to its very similar symptoms, which include:
Small, dilated blood vessels near the skin’s surface
Swollen bumps along the nose and eyes
As someone with sensitive skin, I am extremely prone to rosacea flare ups and break outs.
Solution: 5 Habits To Help Beat Rosacea
Here’s what I’ve found helpful for avoiding those annoying red, splotchy patches.
Use face creams that contain anti-inflammatory properties. Tre’Yours Avocado Corrective Face Cream works particularly well, as it is made with naturally anti-inflammatory Certified Organic avocado oil, and retains the slightly green color of avocadoes, which can help balance out redness.
Drink coffee! The high caffeine content in coffee helps to close dilated blood vessels that instigate flushing. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a coffee addict, so any excuse to drink more of it is fine by me.
Avoid the sun and always apply sunblock. Be sure to check ingredients first though. Some sunblocks contain potentially harmful or irritating ingredients, especially for those of you like me with sensitive skin. Ingredients with natural UV protective properties like Shea Butter and avocado oil are always a plus!
Avoid hot and cold temperatures. Also, try not to switch rapidly between hot and cold environments.
Steer clear of spicy foods and alcoholic beverages. This one is always hard for me as I love Mexican cuisine and going to the local pub, but it’s good advice nonetheless.
The natural green color of Tre’Yours Avocado Corrective Face Cream also saves me from having to over-apply my foundation to cover up redness, which in turn helps my skin to breathe easier (yes, skin needs oxygen too) and makes my rosacea not last quite as long.
Problem 2: Do I Really Need An Eye Cream?
Yes you do. The way I like to explain it is if you were to think of the rest of your skin as a house, with strong wood beams and insulation to keep you safe and warm inside, the skin around your eyes would have the sturdiness and insulation of a makeshift tent. When you consider that, in addition to being so thin and fragile, the skin around the eyes must contend with 22 muscles in perpetual motion throughout each day and night, and that a person blinks up to 10,000 times per day, it’s not surprising that the skin around the eyes can be one of the first areas to show signs of tiredness when someone fails to get enough sleep, and one of the first areas to show visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Research has shown that our eyes are able to detect a 20% change in the topography of our skin’s surface, and given the important role our eyes play in communication, we are naturally more concerned with the appearance of our eyes.
We are drawn to areas of contrast ensuing from shadows made by high amplitude/low-frequency features such as lines and wrinkles, and consequently, taking care of the skin around our eyes is even more crucial.
I personally use AvocadoEyes™ by Tre’Yours and I love it! It is made with Certified Organic avocado oil, which has natural UV protective properties (in fact, it has one of the highest natural SPF ratings
according to the Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology) and generous quantities of Vitamin A (retinol), which helps preserve skin elasticity. It also contains cucumber and green tea extract, which are great for puffiness.
