#screencaps tutorial

With hollow-art down, I figured this might be useful to many in the rp community, but might also come in handy for those who create gifs and edits. I will preface this by saying, you should probably be using a VPN for this, since you’re going to have to download / torrent whatever movie and/or tv show you want to screencap. For example NordVPN..

Things you need:

- A VPN (Recommended) - μTorrent (To download the torrent files) - Free video to jpg converter (Download link here) - RARBG.TO - A website (here) to find downloads of movies and/or tv shows. It has an extremely impressive amount of even old and/or unknown movies and shows!

Once you have all of the things listed above, you want to follow these quick steps:

#1. Go to RARBG and search for the movie and/or show you want to download, and pick whichever version you want. It’s usually good to look for someone that has 720p, 1080p, 2160p in the title, as they have higher quality (higher number = higher quality, usually, but they also take up more space on your laptop, so that’s also something to keep in mind.) You want to click the title of the file you want to download, then click the link at the top of the page as pictured in the image above.

#2. Then click on the little utorrent file that pops up at the bottom of the screen, and your utorrent will launch, showing something like the image below.

Uncheck all the ones except the video file(s) themselves you want to download, then click ok, and wait for it to finish downloading. Once it has fully downloaded, the download bar will turn green, and you’ll have the video file in your downloaded files on your laptop.

#3. Open up your free video to jpg converter, and a window will open up like pictured below (just without the file already added in, and there won’t be a ‘convert’ button until you’ve added your file.)

Click ‘add files’, find the video you downloaded, then add that. Then you can choose how many screencaps you want. If you want to be able to make gifs, and have frame-by-frame caps, I recommend choosing the ‘every frame’ option. If you wanna save some space on your laptop, or just don’t need that many frames, you can use the other options to customize for your personal needs! You can choose where you want the caps to be uploaded to in the ‘...’ button next to the ‘save to:  Then just hit ‘convert’ and the screencaps will be downloaded to the location of your choosing!

Question 1 How do I do screencaps. 

For icons sometimes I just use Windows + Printscreen. and/or PotPlayer

For gifs I use Potplayer 100% of time

Please note that both methods I use windows 10, so because of this it wouldnt make sense for me to write an extended tutorial.However if you need an extended tutorial just message me.

That’s all the advice I can give considering I don’t have a Mac and I hope this helps. If anyone with a mac has software or tutorial inputs please feel free to reply below.

Icons have become a roleplaying staple and it’s nice to be able to make you own, sometimes it’s more easily said than done. There are a lot of sites that post them for public use but it can be hard to find content for obscure (or older) movies and shows which leave you having to take your own. I’ve noticed that a lot of the roleplaying community goes about this the hard way – using either the print screen or snipping tool to take their screencaps one by one – this is tedious and unnecessary, I’m going to teach you an easier way to get quality screencaps like @hq-screencaps and @grande-caps post.

There are two programs that I’m aware of, KMPlayer and this video to .jpg converter @viridisalae turned me on to. I haven’t tried the latter yet so we’re going to focus on KMPlayer since I’m more familiar with it. Please keep in mind I am self-taught, there may be other ways to accomplish the same thing in this program, if so please message me and I’ll gladly add it in.

Step #1

After you’ve installed the program and have it open you’re going to right-click anywhere in the ‘screen’ area and select Capture, another menu will open, in it select Frame Extract.

A new window will open, this is one we will keep open for the entirety of this project. It’s where you control your screencapture settings.screencapture settings.

Step #2

This is where my being self-taught comes into play. I learned using a lot of trial and error and these are the settings that work best for what I need.

Chose a destination folder for your caps to be saved in (kmplayer does have a default folder but having one in mind in advance is helpful) and name what you want the title for each frame to be, this is from beauty and the beast 2017. the _ separates the number sequence from the title so it’s easier to read. You can call yours whatever you like as well as deciding how high you want those numbers to go. I use 4 digit numbers for movies and three for television shows.

Make sure in the number to extract section you have continuously selected, this keeps the program capping in the background so you don’t have to do anything. Size to extract is the size of the screencaps you’ll end up with, I’ve found original size works best for clarity.

In the frames to extract section, you can choose how many frames it takes each second or minute, that’s a matter of personal preference. For beauty and the best I did 2 frames per second which yielded around 14,000 (a lot) usable screencaps (about 300+ icons per character I did). Once you have it set up to your preferences click the video player again, the settings window should stay open beneath it.

Step #3

Load your movie, show, whatever video content you’re going to be working with and select Open. It should begin to play within a few seconds.

Some of you wanted to know how I color my screencaps, so here comes a quick and simple tutorial! 

Bom, antes de qualquer coisa, vocês precisam de algumas programas o primeiro programa é o aTube. Baixe o programa e logo em seguida baixe também o KMPlayer.

Parte de como baixar o vídeo.

Você vai no youtube, acha seu vídeo e copia a URL em questão. Abre o aTube e clica naquele "colar". Eu geralmente não mudo o formato do vídeo, não procuro um formato certo, baixo no formato que ele tem mesmo. Então em "perfil de saída" você vai por: "Não conversão (somente baixe o arquivo original). Então clique em baixar. Ao clicar em baixar, vai aparecer uma janela tipo essa. Sempre escolha o valor maior para o vídeo, que é a versão HD que esta no youtube. Geralmente nós que escolhemos em qual formato vamos assistir aquele clip, a versão HD demora mais para carregar em net lenta, por isso tem essa opção de escolher. Então, ao baixar aparece essa janela com os formatos do vídeo. Creio que sempre é a primeira opção a maior. Ao selecionar o formato aperte em baixar e então o download começara.

Parte dos screencaps

Abra o programa KMPlayer. Ao abrir clique no player, ao clicar no player vai abrir uma janela e então você escolhe o vídeo que quer tirar os screens.

Quando você escolher automaticamente o vídeo vai começar a tocar, então dê pause e volte para o começo do vídeo.

Na sua área de trabalho, crie uma pasta e a nomeie como desejar. Essa pasta é onde os screens ficarão.  Volte para o KMPlayer, e lá vai ter seu vídeo pausado, certo? Então, aperte CTRL+G. Vai abrir a janela de extração de quadros. Mude o "extrair para" clicando na pastinha que fica logo do lado, vai abrir uma janelinha e então você desce e clica na pasta que foi criada por você. Deixe os comandos assim e logo a seguir aperte "iniciar". Ao clicar em iniciar, dê play no seu vídeo e espere ele terminar.

Quando o vídeo terminar, feche o programa e vá até a pasta do destino que foi dado para os screencaps ficarem e eles estarão lá.
