True Detective Made Me Pay Attention to Details I Normally Ignore
Watching the pilot of True Detective in class was actually way more interesting than I expected. I’ve heard people hype the show up forever, but I never realized how much detail goes into the cinematography. The article we read about “reading the silver screen” helped too.
I’ve never really analyzed a TV episode before; usually, I just watch and zone out, but this time I found myself noticing camera angles, colors, and pacing. Rust and Marty were framed so differently that it almost told a story before the dialogue even started.
What surprised me is how much meaning is built visually. The article basically said films communicate with images the way books communicate with words. It made me think about how much I normally miss when I’m not slowing down to pay attention.
This class is definitely changing how I watch stuff already.
