Centennial & Scovill Head Rest
This rare 1800′s historic photographic head stand was made by Scovill. It tightens up by way of adjusting the position of the back of the clamping system, using a three (3) point contact system. The stand adjusts upwards from 39" to 66". The “T” arm length is 20" long. The only markings found in the stand’s head are IE or HE.
Although this specific model looks like an historic Centennial stand a variety of its parts appear to be made by other brands. Case in point, the unusual looking head clamp, the clamping screw on the head clamp, which differs from the other stand screws (see Scovill’s butterfly screw image) and its “T” junction.
The three (3) point head clamp uses its top screw, not to affix it to the rod, but instead to adjust its position to the seize of the sitter’s head ranging from a child to an adult, with an up and down sliding motion moving this contraption into the desired position.
Parts for the top portion of a daguerreian era posing stand. These are raw castings from an original stand (bottom images) were made in the late 90's by Tim E. Merritte. Assemblage will require some drilling, tapping, and threading.
Also a 1800′s original three legged Adams/Lewis base for a daguerreian stand purchased via Mark Osterman.

R. F. Adams 1876 patent for the daguerreian photographic head rest only covered T socket, thumb screws, and rod. The base and spoons could've been manufactured by W&WH Lewis, Scovill, or anyone else.

Scovill the camera Let me tell you about Scovill, she is a wooden stereo camera made around 1880 in New York. She also has a stereo pair Dallmeyer Anthony lenses made on 14 Sept 1883. Why do I know the precise date? Well all the books from Dallmeyer are on the internet so we looked it up 😊 Fun Fact! There is another identical stereo pair made on the same day. So Scovill will be looking for her brother and sister, will you help? The reason why I bought her is because she shoots stereo but also because she can make pictures in dry and also wet plate. More on that in a later post. Scovill will be in some upcoming post. I have to tweak and upgrade her, that will be happening in the coming month. I will keep you posted 😊✌️
