Hello again! Here’s another rview I’ve been meaning to get to for a while. I came across this UTAU under a video for a UST I wanted, and decided to check him out. This is Scottpoid (no, not Scott, though he is my blorbo).

Scottpoid has a website hosted on Neocities. The website might look too zoomed in on some browsers, hitting “Ctrl” and “-” should fix this. The download button is towards the bottom. The voicebank is about 750 MB when unzipped. It comes with fully generated .frq and .llsm files. Since he only has one voicebank up for download right now, I’ll be talking about that one exclusively.

First Impressions

Scottpoid has a distinct accent with a nasally tone and an overall deep voice. He isn’t exactly solid but has a decent amount of power.

Configuration

Scottpoid has 5 pitches, most of them being in baritone range, with one C4 pitch to round out the range. He also comes with glottal stops and end breaths, but has nothing else in terms of extras. This gives him an extensive range, and he can go up to C5 with no issue! Though he is clearly meant to be a tenor/baritone singer. His voice gets a little quieter the lower it gets. UTAU’s volume normalization helps with that a little, but the tension in the higher pitches still remains. The readme says to use 150-170 consonant velocity, but I found that it rarely needs to be that high since his pronunciation is so strong. I ran into a few problems with the cutoff on his oto being way too long on beginning notes, but those are easy fixes. 

Scottpoid has a bit of nasalness but overall his voice is bassy, deep, and natural. He almost sounds like he delivers lines cheerfully with a smile on his face, though. It’s an interesting group of vocal traits that probably appeals to a subset of users who want male UTAU that don’t sound either extremely metallic or like they want to kill you.

Final Thoughts

Scottpoid is a quality UTAU with no fancy bells and whistles, but a distinct and competent voice. His range is wide enough to handle mostly anything.
