An epic sonnet about Scottish independence
For ages have fought kilted men With bravery, down in the glen The song of bagpipes was filling the air, Floating right to the enemy's lair
Led by a hero named William Wallace, Wah hae ! They kicked the English arse ! They're said to go underwear-free, How frightening for the bonnie lassie !
Later, their pride, deep as the Loch Ness, Because of the English vanished with epicness And on the very day of the referendum, Finally they've asked for their freedom But now God's tears fall with abundance, Announcing as over the Scots' battle for independence. -G.L.G
[19.09.2014] Note: this poem was written during a boring philosophy class on the 19th of September 2014, following the results of the referendum for the Scottish Independence Referendum. Although I was deeply saddened and disappointed by the results, as I was really hoping that the YES would win, I decided to write this humorous poem instead of moaning. The YES campaign was a brilliant effort, but both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ voters chose what they thought was best for their country and I believe that they were equally proud of being Scottish, which is a beautiful thing. Scotland is an old, respectable and proud nation, whether independent or part of the UK.
UK - the price of togetherness?
I’m actually really upset on behalf of Scotland. A lot of my family members live there (I am partially Scottish myself) and I know they were all so looking forward to being individual, having their own government instead of being stuck under ours, who never seem to get anything right. I can’t help but feel that something happened with the voting. So so so so so many Scottish people agreed with the idea of becoming a separate country from the UK, so I wonder how it is that the over all verdict was against it? Scottish people are proud people, they have their own values that they respect greatly. All I’ve known my entire life is that the majority of Scotland wants to be separate. The MAJORITY of Scotland WANTS to be separate. So why didn’t it happen? Has our government messed things up again? Not that it would surprise me.
I just feel sad. Sad for the people who are being attacked in Glasgow for voting in favour of separation. I feel sad for my family, who would phone us every hour closer to the final decision time, saying how confident they were that they were going to get their independence this time. And I’m sure, had the voting been more organised and not fixed, Scotland would have their independence today.
The UK government is notoriously bad. Empty promises. Empty promises. It’s all they’re good at is lying to the people to lure them in. If a country no longer wants to be a part of that madness then you can completely understand why.
One day, Scotland, you’ll get what you want so badly. Hang on in there.
My dear Scots, you have spoken. Whether you're happy or devastated with the outcome, you can always be safe in the knowledge that your music is way better than ours

Idk why Glasgow is so happy with their YES win when the rest of Scotland said no...
I am just saying.
