Rule No. 1 Don’t make a sound. Rule No. 2 Never leave the path. Rule No. 3 Red means run. If they hear you, they hunt you. A family must be as quiet as possible to avoid drawing the ire of monsters attracted by noise. More suspenseful than scary (watched it mostly through my hands, but upon a rewatch would probably be fine.) I liked it. The use of sound was genius - you actually get to hear from different character’s perspectives; and from the opening scene where she’s gotta be careful about handling a pill bottle, to the playing of monopoly w/cloth pieces and the eating on lettuce leaves, it definitely made the audience (or just me) aware of just how much noise is around us. The whole first scene - watch out. Amazing cast and performances, and the cinematography was beautiful. The ending reminded me a bit of the ending to Three Billboards, the farmhouse in the corn fields reminded me of Signs, as did the use of an “unconventional” weapon (sound vs. water), and the monsters/aliens seemed sort of demogorgon-like, basically vicious, walking space ears. with teeth. A coworker liked everything but the end as it was left open for a sequel (one has been greenlight by Paramount) if the sequel is basically a repeat of the first one - yawn, but if it expands/explains/opens up this world than yes please. would rewatch/buy this one. #ssmovieof2018 #drama #horror (eh) #scifi #suspence #EmilyBlunt (OMG) #MillicentSimmonds (👌🏼) #NoahJupe #CadeWoodward #LeonRussom #DorisMcCarthy writers: #ScottBeck, #BryanWoods (story and screenplay by) #JohnKrasinski (screenplay by) director: John Krasinski movie of 2018 number 12) #AQuietPlace
