Reid Scott's proposal for Canada, but with the modern design.
from /r/vexillology Top comment: **Let's !wave it!** I recently saw that gallery of Canadian proposals post ... which inspired me to do this. **Here's why this works:** 1. This version of the flag here vindicates Canada's national motto - *A Mari Usque Ad Mare* \- from sea to sea. 2. Think of the Union Jack - red bars with white fimbriations on a blue background. In a way, this is also a red object, "fimbriated" with white, flanked by blue. 3. [The current national flag of the French Republic is a blue-white-red tricolor.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_France.svg) The flag of the Kingdom of France after the French Revolution transformed it, and the flag of the First French Republic until 1794, was [a red-white-blue tricolor.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_France_(1790%E2%80%931794).svg) **This flag for Canada basically mirrors those two flags of France, with a Canadian symbol serving as the fulcrum.** 4. The national flags of the other 4 major countries of the Anglosphere all have red, white and blue (though that could change for Australia and New Zealand) - furthermore, the only other country with a vertical blue-white-blue triband is Guatemala, which uses a very light sky anyway.
