In case you needed some good news today.
"In the House, Dem Leader Hakeem Jeffries is stalling a vote on Trumpās big evil bill by utilizing something called the āMagic Minute.ā Heās using the ruleāwhich allows leadership unlimited time to speakāto delay the vote as long as possible. As of now, heās been speaking for more than 5 hours straight.
The California Nurses Association helped organize a protest outside of GOP Rep. Young Kimās Anaheim field office. Folks were demanding she vote no on Trumpās big evil bill, chanting āShame!ā Well deserved, Rep. Kim.
Folks also gathered for a candlelight vigil held outside of GOP Rep. Claudia Tinneyās Canandaigua, NY, office. Speakers shared their personal stories, and spoke about how losing their healthcare would impact their families.
Last week in Carlinville, IL, some bad actors parked a dumpster and a truckāboth full of manureāoutside the regular anti-Trump protest spot. In response, around five times as many people showed up to this weekās protest. Thatās what I call backlash.
Nearly all of the members of the City Commission in Key West, FL, voted to cancel the agreement between the cityās police and ICE. This would mean that the Key West Police Department will no longer hold detainees for ICE, or share arrest data with them. DeSantis threatened retaliation, but they arenāt backing down.
DeSantis has other things to worry about right now anyway, as his abomination of a detention center known as āAlligator Alcatrazā flooded, due to a regular rainstorm.
The good news is that this new evidence can be added to the lawsuit aimed at shutting the facility down. Itās a colossal disaster in the making, from all anglesāone that DeSantis, Trump, and Noem all deserve the blame for.
In the courts, a federal judge halted Trumpās attempt to ban immigrants from claiming asylum at the US-Mexico border. A lawsuit was filed against the Trump regime for violating privacy laws by releasing Medicaid data on undocumented immigrants to ICE.
Dem Rep. Debbie Dingell took nearly 15,000 letters from folks in Michiganāall who would be negatively impacted by the big evil billāand entered them into the Congressional record. Dingell said she wanted to make it clear āexactly what Republicans are doing if they support this bill.ā"
