Bessie MacNicol, Three Ladies of Fashion
To coincide with the kick off of Edinburgh Fashion Week, the team thought this would be the perfect picture from the studio.
Bessie MacNicol was interested in dress from a young age, possibly inspired by her grandfathers work as a master tailor. She often painted young women dressed in styles from the past, interested in the textures that these outfits could add to her painting.
MacNicol is one of the artists featured in the exhibition Modern Scottish Women: Painters and Sculptors 1885-1965, at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art until June 26th. Edinburgh Fashion Week runs from 5th - 13th March across Edinburgh.
