Monster-A-Day 2015: Scorpionfolk
Third annual, October, the scariest part is that these are probably over half my content at this point, etc.
From A Survey of the Beastfolk Minors.
Scorpionfolk are one of the more common minors, along with centaurs. Unlike centaurs, who have adopted human (Lovas and Connish) culture whole cloth, scorpionfolk are reclusive. Native to the Varaz deserts (which were separate, if closely related environments prior to the creation of the Varaz Waste), they occupy a niche that is filled by boarfolk and attercops in more hospitable climes.
Earlier studies by Karloman of the Diamond Towers, I have found, completely misrepresent the nature of scorpionfolk culture. Karloman claims that they are semi-humanoid chimeras, like a manticore or minotaur. Any culture they possess is extant only so long as a given individual exists. They have no language, no art, and display tool-use only so far as scavenging arms and armor from the deceased. All of these, though, are false.
We're going evil
So we began our newest campaign a few weeks ago. We have a new DM and he is very silly in comparison to our normal one. I am playing a lesser scorpion folk and a phoelarch. The lesser scorpion folk while fun was a bit too silly so we have turned him into the inn keeper of the inn we very rudely took over. So we start the game as a band of ex-soldiers. A were-Jackal asherati rogue, a lesser scorpion folk fighter, a halfling fighter, a ranger asherati, an atherian fighter, the human cleric, and two half Faye elves. A fairly large group that did not last last the first game. Our first course of action was to walk into a bar a murder the bartender. We succeeded, then the Faye elves decided to eat him. Nifty we have human eating Faye! We then attacked a group of soldiers walking past. We killed them very quickly. We then found a weapon shop with an owner named Davish. Who was nice enough buy a number of the soldiers left over as slaves. One of the slaves however turned out to be the son of a captain of ex soldiers that were camped outside of town. This lead to many silly events. The asherati swam under the sand, did I mention we are in a giant desert? Cause we are and asherati are sand mermaids basically. Well they swam underneath the tents of these soldiers while they were sleeping and slaughtered them in their sleep while the rest of them were all drinking around the fire in the middle of the camp. While this was happening our atherian fighter flew our captive captains son over the camp and dropped him on the captains tent killing him after a very long fall filled with screaming. Around the camp four patrols walked. We split these patrols between the remaining six of us. The rest of the group took care of there groups while I burst out of the sand (like the scorpion thing from transformers) grappled both guards with my tail and then slammed my stinger into the other guy. I felt like a badass.
This is when half our group left and hasn’t come back. So that left us with the ranger, my scorpion, the atherian, one of our Faye and the human cleric. Upon our arrival back at davish’s shop we were attacked by Davish. My scorpion got into a grappling match with him then our Faye barbarian grabbed my tail and used me as a very large sling. We launched Davish into a building. Problem solved. And that is where we stand… Yes this is much sillier than our last few games.
I have decided we have too many fighters so I have rolled a war Mage phoelarch name Miyrrdin. More fun soon awaits!
