I got 5âs on AP art history & ap Lang which surprised bc I thought I bombed my essays. I was disappointed by my apush score which was a 4 bc I usually do well in history. I was v shocked when I got a 3 in ap physics 1 bc I guessed on half the test. anyways, I feel so anxious abt college apps & scared of not getting into my top schools esp dream school. I just feel unaccomplished as a hs student. ughh. I also really love your blog btw!!
Congrats anon! Though it sucks not to do as well as you hope in a subject youâre stronger in, those are all absolutely amazing scores. We all have hiccups even in our best subjects and itâs just one test on one day. Take some time for yourself and treat yourself, whether itâs by sleeping in a little this weekend, taking yourself out for dinner and a movie, or spending a fun day with family or friends.
Your college app anxiety is totally understandable. This is a super stressful time in your life and thereâs so much of the process thatâs out of your control. When it does start to get overwhelming, take a deep breath, take a break, and step back for a minute. Iâm going to give you some advice I gave another high schooler who was rejected from their dream school (not that youâll get rejected ofc; itâs just also applicable here):Â âyou will get in somewhere, and itâll be great because you are great and youâve worked hard. if your dream school doesnât see that, fuck them.â Anon, youâre going to get in somewhere thatâs great for you, whether itâs your number one choice or a school who appreciates the kind, dedicated student you are.
As for feeling unaccomplished: I promise you that you are more accomplished than you think. Like these AP scores alone are huge accomplishments of which you can and should be proud. More importantly, you have so much life ahead of you in which to accomplish things. Youâre a teenager; youâve only lived like 1/5 of your life and you were a child for most of it. Of course, that doesnât change how you feel now, but itâs sometimes helpful to look at things in this perspective. Also, when you start getting down, talk to yourself the way your best friend or your parents might. Remind yourself of statements like â[Anon] always makes me laughâ or â[Anon] is a great listenerâ or â[Anon] worked on that really cool science project in the 8th grade.â These and other statements like them are all accomplishments in and of themselves and you should be proud of them.Â
Have a fantastic summer! Best of luck with your apps and remember, my inbox is always open
