early influences on your writing

Brian Jacques, Brian Jacques, Brian Jacques!  I cannot even begin to stress how much he influenced my writing style.  The way he describes things, the detail of that....later on came Tolkien and Tamora Pierce who each influenced me in different ways :D

favorite scene you’ve ever written

Hhhh, do I have to pick??? I have so many... there’s several in Counter Crisis--Cloud and Sephiroth’s spar in the training room, MANY later on that i can’t talk about because [SPOILER], and the scene where Shepard shows up in Hell and High Water is one of my favorites as well.

favorite line you’ve ever written 

uhhhh hmm.  a lot of the time as i read things over and edit stuff i find lines i absolutely love but it’s so hard to think of any right now.  So, I’ll pick a line from the current chapter of Counter Crisis that’s being edited, as well as a line that I wrote last night in a little thing I’m working on:

Counter Crisis - Ch. 18:

ShinRa had a specially trained group of scientists—called, tongue-in-cheek, The Bomb Squad—who knew how to get Bomb corpses dismantled into useful pieces without causing  postmortem detonation.

"Most of your folk stick to Bree and the Menfolk's settlements for fixing their among other things," he offered. 

 share the synopsis of a story you work on that you haven’t published yet

right now I’ve got a few fic things that i’ve been poking at very slowly for my Tolkien pairings--a one shot, a short chaptered story, and then a sort of...drabble series/vignette series.  the last one is the newest and the one i’m poking on right now.

2. things that motivate you?

Storytelling in general is just...a major love for me.  But, I won’t lie: people’s enjoyment of my work and telling me they enjoy it, having an audience is a big part of it.  As well as like....if a fandom doesn’t have what i want in it well...may as well write it myself.

4. name three authors that were influential to your work and tell why?

Brian Jacques first and foremost.  The detail he went to when he described things built a basis for the way I do descriptions and the epic simplicity of his plots.  They were straightforward but meaningful and he built an amazing world. 

Tamora Pierce for her wonderful characters and the way that that she allowed them to be people.  They made mistakes and overcame them, they were realistic.  They were allowed to love and realize that maybe this person wasn’t the be all and the end all.  They were full of powerful female characters with agency who overcame so much.

And of course J.R.R Tolkien whose rich world and flare for world building gave me a window into how to create my own worlds, and fueled my love for High Fantasy and great epics.

10. how do you do your researches?

It depends on what I’m researching, though to give an example of the lengths I’ll go to:  Before starting Counter Crisis I went out and bought a PSP specifically to get and play through Crisis Core, then I played through FF7 a few times in a row and found a youtube playthrough of Before Crisis.  Also, Sama and I watch Advent Children Complete together whenever we’re gearing up to work on the fic :’D

(there’s usually a lot of reading fandom wiki’s for whatever I’m writing, and if it’s like....say a medical thing there’s a lot of page through different internet info sources to try and get at least a general idea of what it’s all about.)

Hi hi hello,

- The bleeding Gothicism of the first areas of Bloodborne, which I’m still giddy about. The game went so stupidly overboard with it that it was impossible not to enjoy.

- People sharing food with me. Flatmates sharing their cooking with me, friends bringing food over. Food is the best gift. Incidentally, I haven’t eaten today.

- Custom Hawkes like seriously. Stories about the truth behind the events of Kirkwall that you can create navigating Varric’s biased, unreliable tale. That moment at the start of the game when you’ve gone through the first mock battle as a fictional default Hawke, and then Varric sits back, says that he will now tell Cassandra the real story, and you’re immediately whisked into the character creation screen is a bit of narrative brilliance.

- A new discovery: first flush darjeeling tea. It doesn’t taste much at all like regular darjeeling, it’s almost like juice. Also, expensive.
