Henry is an investigative journalist with a penchant for sticking his nose too far into other peopleâs business in search of a good story! Heâs a naturally inquisitive person who canât let things rest when he comes across a mystery, which makes him very good at his job. However, he can be nosy and a little bit of a gossip at times.
fankidtober day 17! - Allium, a Fennel/Juniper (scientificshipping) kid! While awkward and closed off in conversation, theyâre level headed and fiercely determined in battle. Observant, logical, and not one to wear her emotions on her sleeve, she makes for a dangerous opponent. A better trainer than her brother. Close friends also call them âChivesâ.
Since Iâm indecisive as usual I realized I wasnât really feeling the dynamic Hugh, Nate & Yancy had, especially after I added Glenn. Glenn and Mindy had a strong sibling dynamic and dynamic with Hugh and Nate, but I was having trouble with how Yancy and Glenn fit in. So, hereâs the current situation. And hopefully the last since I keep changing this family around.
Hugh and Nate are married and Glenn is their biological son. Mindy is the biological daughter of Yancy and some random OC who doesnât matter. Yancy didnât feel able to become a mother at the point she became unexpectedly pregnant, but still wanted to have some part in her childâs life, so after some discussion, Hugh and Nate agree to adopt Yancyâs daughter. This way, Mindy could grow up knowing Yancy as a sort of aunt figure, while Yancy didnât have to care for a child by herself when she wasnât able to.
Elliot is now the adopted son of Aurea and Fennel, making him Vernaâs little brother. This doesnât affect his character and plotline much at all, since most of his significant interactions so far are with Blake, whoâs his childhood friend. As Bianca works for Aurea, it stands to reason their children would grow up knowing each other.
Thatâs about it! Iâll be retagging/editing some old posts to reflect these changes (not everything of course) so thanks for standing by as I continually change major things like this.Â

Summary: Juniper decides to surprise Fennel for their wedding anniversary.
Notes: Thank you so very much to @makomaragi for your donation!
â⊠Thank you for your time. Good night.â
A politeâbut loud, given the size of the crowdâapplause rose up with full admiration, then fell as Aurea Juniper exited the stage. She dabbed at her forehead, upon which the slightest bit of perspiration had gathered. The stage lights were hot, and she never was one for public speaking.
As her admirers dispersed, Aurea decided it was actually time to find Fennel. The day had been long, and she was about ready to go back to the hotel, order some service, watch some television or maybe a movie, and generally wind down before the conferenceâs continuation tomorrow.
âAlola!â a voice called out from nearby. âProfessor Juniper!â
âHelloâAlola,â Aurea corrected herself. The regionâs traditional greeting was so unusual and she was not quite used to it yet. âWhat can I help you with?â
âThank you,â Kukui said proudly. âWell, I donât want to keep you, but just know if thereâs anything I can do to help you while youâre here, please let me know.â
Aurea was prepared to thank him and graciously exitâbut she stumbled.
âActually,â she started, ânow that youâve brought it upâŠâ
âOh?â Kukui perked up.
âYou see, itâs my wife and Iâs first time in Alola,â she said, âand our one-year anniversary is tomorrow. We agreed that the⊠expenses of traveling to this conference together in such a beautiful region would be our celebration. Still, Iâd like to surprise her after the conference breaks in the afternoon, but Iâm not sure with what.â
âWell, Iâve got the perfect thing for you.â Kukui grinned. âAn Alolan specialty: Battle Royal.â
âExcuse me?â Juniper raised her brow.
âItâs a special kind of battle where four trainers fight against each other,â Kukui explained. âAnd it just so happens that Royal Avenue, the location of the Battle Royal Dome, is here on Akala Island and not far off from Heahea City.â He lifted his hand to his firm chin with practiced thought. âItâs also the arena where the very strong and very handsome trainer, the Masked Royal, appearsâŠâ
âIs that so?â Aurea asked, amused.
âOh yes.â Kukui nodded reverently. âEven my wife admits heâs a real stud. I know him personally, so I could get in contact with him and get you comp tickets for the front row.â
âWould you really?â Aurea straightened up.
âSure!â Kukui nodded eagerly. âIf you give me your email, Iâll be able to put you in touch.â
âThat would be wonderful,â Aurea said. âThank you very much!â
They exchanged information and a few more pleasant words before Kukui was called away.
âHeâs handsome,â Fennel purred from behind Aurea once Kukui was out of earshot. Juniper nearly jumped in surprise and turned just in time to see a
questioning look fall across Fennelâs face. âDo you think he ever gets cold not wearing a shirt all the time?â
Aurea stared through her.
âWhatâs with that look?â Fennel frowned.
Her pout caused Aurea to break into into a laugh; she shook her head tiredly and smiled.
âWell, Iâm sorry to report heâs married,â she said. âAnd for that matter, so are you, Therese.â
âHey, I can still appreciate the aesthetic appeal of muscles,â Therese said with teasing nonchalance.
They laughed together at that.
Hours later, after eating, Juniper holed herself up in the hotel bathroom, managing to sneak her laptop in with her. (Fennel believed she was only showering. If Aurea was on her computer with her wife in the room, there was no chance her surprise would stay secret. Therese had a habit of⊠hovering). For good measure, Juniper turned on the shower head as she booted up her computer.
To her surprise, she already an email from whom she could only assume was the Masked Royal, given the address was [email protected], and the sender icon feature a shirtless man wearing a colorful mask.
It read, in all caps:
ALOLA!
MY VERY GOOD FRIEND PROFESSOR KUKUI TOLD ME YOU AND YOUR WIFE WANT TO COME SEE ME TOMORROW NIGHT.
I CALLED THE ARENA AND TOLD THEM TO OFFER A PAIR OF FRONT-ROW SEATS TO AUREA JUNIPER. THEY ASKED YOU SHOW YOUR ID AT THE TICKET BOOTH.
WOO!
MASKED ROYAL
Therese was watching the news when Aurea came out of the bathroom, fully showered and dressed. She tied up her damp hair and climbed into bed beside Therese.
âAnything exciting happening in the world?â Aurea asked.
âIt's wedding season in Alola, apparently,â Therese said.
Juniper hummed. âWell, in retrospect, maybe we ought to have held our wedding here. It probably wouldnât have rained, and my hair and make-up wouldnât have run, and your dress wouldnât have gotten all gray and frayed at the ends,â she remarked.
âNo way,â Fennel refused. âOur wedding was perfect for those reasons. It was messy, but we had so much fun, and the photos were fantastic. Plus, with all that flooding, we mostly had to stay inside for the honeymoon.â She lowered her voice playfully when she added, âThat was even more fun. It was like college all over again.â
âCheeky,â Aurea tutted. âI canât believe itâs already been a year.â
âNot yet,â Therese reminded her.
âSplitting hairs,â Aurea yawned. âIt will have been after we sleep. And speaking of whichâŠâ
The lights were out minutes later. Juniper fell asleep quickly, especially with the secure warmth of Fennel beside her.
⊠But the sweet reverie ended in what felt like only minutesâeven though, when Juniper checked the clock, it was hours later.
âCome on, get up,â Therese said excitedly into her ear.
âItâs 4 a.m., go back to sleep,â Aurea groaned, rolling over.
âExactly,â Therese said. âWhich means itâs 10 a.m. in Unova, which means itâs been a year since we got married.â
âWell, happy anniversary,â Juniper yawned, to which Fennel hit her arm. âOw.â
âGet up! Come on, I want to take you somewhere,â Fennel implored.
âOkay, geez, fine,â Aurea grumbled as Therese dragged her out of bed.
They didnât bother to change, even as there was a light drizzle outside. Aurea remarked that she supposed it wouldnât have mattered if they held their wedding in Alola; it would have rained anyway. Therese, however, didnât reply as she hurriedly led her wife down the dark, puddled streets. Juniper was about to ask where in the world they were headed when suddenly they turned the corner, and in the damp haze there stood a small bakery with its bright yellow lights shining down the street.
Juniperâs hair was sopping, and the ends of Fennelâs pajama bottoms were heavy and dark when they stepped inside. The woman behind the cash register looked very surprised to see them as Therese marched up to her and said, âTwo sweet Malasadas please!â
âO-Of course!â The woman rang them up and handed them two sugary confections. Aurea stared down at hers as Therese led her to a booth.
âWhat⊠is this?â Aurea asked just as Therese took a bite out of hers.
âItâsââ Fennel paused to chew and swallow. âItâs Malasada. Itâs an Alolan specialty. Itâs a little bit like a donut. Try it! Itâs good.â
Juniper glanced down at the warm treat in her hands before taking an experimental bite. A sweet, Pecha filling oozed out.
âMm, it is good,â Aurea said. âWhere did you get the idea for this?â
âWellâŠâ Therese trailed off. âDo you remember Professor Burnet?â
Juniper paused to think. âOh!â she then exclaimed with remembrance. âKukuiâs wife. She presented on her dimensional research two days ago.â
âYeah, her!â Fennel nodded. âWell, I had a moment alone with her yesterday, and⊠I know we agreed not to do anything else for our anniversary, but I wanted to surprise you. She suggested this place.â
Juniper was initially touchedâand then she laughed.
âThatâs funny,â she said.
âWhatâs funny?â Therese inquired, her face twisting with confusion.
âI wanted to do the same for you,â Aurea explained. âI asked Kukui for advice, but he suggested going to see a Battle Royal match. I have front-row seats reserved for tonight.â
Thereseâs jaw dropped.
âWhat! Ugh!â She snapped her fingers. âOutdone again by the brilliant Professor Juniper.â
âIf it makes you feel better,â Aurea began, amused, âI didnât pay for them. Kukui, apparently, has connections to the shirtless Masked Royal and got me the seats for freeâso you can enjoy the aesthetic appeal of muscles all you want tonight.â
âOh,â Therese hummed. âSo my gift is technically more valuable.â
âTechnically.â Aurea smiled. âBy $4.29.â
They laughed, and Aurea leaned across the table to kiss Therese, catching some of the sugar on the edge of her lip.
âThank you for this,â Juniper said. âHappy anniversary.â
âHappy anniversary,â Fennel repeated back before leaning forward to kiss her again.
