And here comes another review that I started last year and I’m only getting around to posting now. Chapter 17 of Claim Me by ScientificallySinful (VampireGaaraCheesepuffs). My previous reviews are here and here and the story is currently at chapter 22.

Alright, let’s start this off with me admitting that I was WRONG in my review of chapter 16. I said that Izuku couldn’t possibly be pregnant because he was taking his medicine. Hah, yeah, welllll I completely forgot that with the whole kidnapping and recovery in the hospital Izuku may not have had access to his birth control. Yikes. Anyway, but this whole chapter is about Izuku feeling like he's all alone. He doesn't want to tell Katsuki about the possibility of being pregnant and freaks out when Katsuki starts making future plans. Katsuki jumped into “I’m gonna be a dad mode” while Izuku was still trying to figure out what a possible pregnancy meant for his life. Even after arguing Katsuki leaves letting him know that he doesn’t have to go through all of this alone. It’s repeated when Izuku’s mom calls to check up on him since she hasn’t talked to him since before his heat. I felt so bad during the scene when Shinsou and Izuku talked and Shinsou assumed that Izuku wanted nothing to do with him because of the villain incident. NOOOOO, Shinsou, Izuku likes you. He's just stuck in his head with his own personal issues.

It’s been a minute since I’ve talked about Claim Me, so here’s my previous review of chapters 1-12.

Alright, let’s jump in. When we left off, Izuku was missing and returned to the agency like nothing happened. In chapter 13 we actually find out where he was and UGH. Izuku woke in the belly of the beast! I’ll admit that unlike some commenters, I totally missed that the woman he ran into in chapter 12 could have been Toga. They were right! Izuku was restrained in quirk nullifying cuffs that only pro hero had access (how the hell did they get them?!) and intravenous drugs. And these villains are connected to the case that the heroes had been investigating?! This is bad! Izuku becomes a guinea pig where they try Orders on him but of course he’s Claimed so they won’t work. Except they bring Shinsou out to control his mind. How the hell is Shinsou there? He was supposed to be undercover and that’s why Izuku couldn’t have Shinsou claim him! Gat dammit. Is he how they got the cuffs? And then Toga overrode Katsuki’s Claim. NOOOO, that must have been why Katsuki could feel the pain of needles through the Claim. He FELT her overriding it. Aw damn. And she Ordered Izuku to fake like nothing happened, OF COURSE! But what did they want from him and why were they upset that he had already been Claimed?! On the reread, I must have been tired the first time I read because I totally missed that Toga was disguised as some else and walked past Izuku to begin their plan but what is it?! Why is Hero Deku destroying the street??!!

Summary:

Being an Alpha has nothing to do with Katsuki’s success as a Pro-Hero, the same way Deku’s Omega status hasn’t kept him from becoming Number Two. Secondary gender doesn’t mean anything nowadays and “mating” is an antiquated practice.

So when Izuku, his rival, asks Katsuki to Claim him in the middle of the night, there is only one logical thing to say.

“What the fuck?”

Claim Me is an Omegaverse BKDK Alternate Universe story by ScientificallySinful (VampireGaaraCheesepuffs). Katsuki is an Alpha and the #3 Pro-Hero. Izuku is an Omega and the #2 Pro-Hero. The two have a long-standing arrangement of sparring at night to keep pushing each other forward. I loved the line "Only one person lacked even the most fundamental means of self-preservation and would be willing to text Katsuki after 10 pm." So very canon. LOL 

On one such night we find out that Izuku is spooked by some event he doesn't want to talk about and is determined that he must be Claimed to protect himself from Alpha Orders. And he's asked Katsuki to be the one to do it. Katsuki is understandably against it as Claiming is not a societal normal anymore and even if it was Katsuki and Izuku aren’t in a relationship. There isn’t anything romantic between them, they’re just rivals. After Izuku’s persistence and the two of them talking through his fears, Katsuki agrees to the one-sided Claim. That scene was so well described that I could imagine seeing what Izuku saw during the experience.

True to Masaru’s, Katsuki’s father’s, warning the Claim had some unintended side effects. Surfacing any sexual feelings the two may have had buried in their subconsciouses. Izuku’s battle with Katsuki’s hoodie was hilarious. LOL

This incarnation of Ochako annoys me. As Izuku’s Beta best friend she worries about him but she’s too involved in his life and oversteps. She repeatedly questioned his decision to ask Katsuki (at some point you have to let people live their lives) and even told others (Shouto) about what he was planning. That really crossed the line. That was Izuku’s business to share. I had a smug smile on my face in chapter 12 when she wondered why he never told her about going through with it. “He probably didn’t tell you because he knew you’d do this shit, hounding him with questions or whatever.“

Unfortunately, Izuku needs to to make a choice. Does Izuku choose his human side, his animal side...or Katsuki?
