Every week we're going to be posting a challenge. These will vary in type and style. Some will be character development. Others will be about character inspiration. But mostly they're all designed to be fun and to help you build your character in the roleplay. They are not compulsory, but are highly recommended. This week’s challenge is s Character Survey. It’s designed to help you pin point a lot of your inner headcanons about your character(s). While it’s mostly about your character, there are quite a few questions that may effect relatives/friends/etc of your character, so we suggest that you talk with your fellow players as much as possible to prevent contradicting surveys.Â
Basic Details
Name
The Full name as well as any nicknames that he/she goes by. You can also give the reasons behind their name here.Â
Birthday
The date of birth and current age of character.Â
Zodiac Sign
The Zodiac sign of the character and how it correlates to the character. Does it correctly portray the personality or is the complete opposite?
Ethnicity/Race
What is your character’s ethnicity and race? Does their culture culture have significant impact on your character’s daily life?Â
Physical
Overall Description
Do it as thoroughly as possible. Describe the build/body type and the facial features.Â
Height/Weight
You don’t have to be specific, it’s just good to have a general idea so you know how your character’s body is handled in the world.
Hair
What color, length, style of hair does your character have? How do they normally wear it?
Eyes
What color are their eyes? Do they wear glasses or contacts? Any other defining attributes about their eyes?
Wardrobe
What kind of clothes does your character wear? Personalities often are displayed in our clothing more than we realize.Â
Accessories
Jewelry, tattoos, piercings. Even the ones your character dreams about getting.
Grooming
Does your character wear make-up? What kind/How much/When? If it’s a guy, how is his beard? Is it thick or does he prefer a cleaner cut?
Mannerisms
Don’t just say ‘what’ they do but try to go into detail as to ‘why’ they do it. If she/he bites their nails, why do they do it? Do they fidget a lot? What are their nervous habits?
Psychological
Personality Type
Free Test. This is not required but it is interesting and fun.Â
Sensitive or Analytic
How does your character perceive the world?
Logical or Emotional
How does he/she make decisions?
Aggressive or Passive
What kind of approach do they have? Is it extreme or mild? Somewhere in between?
Cautious or Daring
Does your character prefer to be safe or take risks?
Optimist or Pessimist
Is the glass half full or half empty and why?
Extrovert or Introvert
Are they the type to be at the center of the party or are they more likely to be holed up in a quiet room by themselves?
Strengths
What are some strong good aspects of your character’s personality?
Weaknesses
What are some of your character’s flaws?
Life Philosophy
This can be a made up philosophy or a famous quote that your character admires.Â
Conclusive Description
In your own words describe your character’s personality and what has made them that way.
Relationships
Family
Who are they related to? What are their relationships with them like?
Sexual Orientation
This can be a very complicated question, because sexual orientation is indeed an entire spectrum. There are many different types of people out there, but please try to label them (for the lack of a better phrasing) in a way that fits their character for the plotting and development, not just to make them ‘different’.
Current Relationship Status
Are they single, married or courting? Is it ‘complicated’? Are they happy with their status?
Past Relationships
Has your character ever been in a relationship? Who with? Why are they no longer together?
Friendship Importance
How important is friendship to your character? Do they need a small group of extremely close friends, or are they the kind of person who needs a group of less personal friends? Do they prefer to not have any friends at all?
Closest Friends
Who is your character closest to? What is their friendship like?Â
Secrets
Biggest Aspiration
What is ultimately the greatest wish of your character no matter how impossible?
Biggest Fear
What makes your character the most vulnerable?
Compulsions/Obsessions/Hobbies
Any secret habits that your character just can’t kick even if they want to?
Insecurities/Wishes
What would your character change most about themselves or their life?
Miscellaneous Details
Night Owl or Early Bird
Does your character prefer sleeping in and staying up all night? Or are they the first one up in the morning acting more chipper than everyone else?
Sleeping Habits
Are they a light or heavy sleeper? Do they sleep on their side, back, or stomach? Do they have nightmares, insomnia, or any other sleeping disorders?
Living Quarters
What is their house/dorm like? Is it messy or clean? Is there a lot of personality in the room or is it bare?
Favorite Cuisine/Food
Is there a particular dish that your character almost always craves? Do they prefer one type of food over another?
Favorite Book(s)/Author(s)
Self-explanitory
Lefty or Right
Which hand do they mostly write with? Are they ambidextrous?Â
Favorite Color
it’s not as insignificant as you might think. A person’t favorite color says a lot about them.
Vices
Any drinking, drugs, smoking?
OOC Trait
Everyone has one, at least they should. It’s what makes a character realistic. Because in the end no one’s personality fits perfectly in a little box, and a lot of the time they’re going to have at least one little aspect about them that doesn’t really fit with the rest of their personality.
