#schubert somberesque

So. Here's another page of sketches that I made before the above drawing. I was trying to figure out his colors here (thank u @rena-irl 🙏)

Alright. So what's his deal?

First and Foremost, Schubert Somberesque is my Ludwig yume. Just wanted to clarify that real quick.

Anyways, he's basically what I call "the crown composer" to Bowser. He sort of lives inside the castle walls or atleast in a very abandoned part of the castles. If I ever write a fic based around him (and Ludwig) then he's going to be introduced around the ending of New Super Mario Bros Wii. because I like to think that, in universe, he's responsible for the music in the second phase of bowser's boss theme (and a few others but I don't want this post to be 5 billion years long).

I have a whole bunch of other stuff planned like how he came to be Bowser's crown composer but I'm gonna save that for future posts.

Whats he like?

I had a couple personality inspirations in mind when creating him. Those two characters being Emmett Forrest from Legally Blonde and Goldie O' Gilt from Ducktales. I imagine he acts really relaxed but at his core he's one hell of a workaholic. Schubert can be quite sassy, especially with others that he doesn't know. He's a bit of a hermit. Schubert only allows 3 people in his room: His mom, Lord Bowser and Bowser Jr.

He grew up poor and that greatly molded who he is. It's the main reason he doesn't know how to stop working. He's afraid if he stops that he'll be right back where he started.

On a more positive note, Schubert grew up around all kinds of people so he's very open minded about who he hangs out with! For example: his best friend is Nabbit (yes, that is 1000% gonna be elaborated on in the future). As I mentioned, he is a bit of a hermit nowadays but it is possible for him to warm up to others. Especially if they're persistent (See: Ludwig).

He just doesn't like to be bothered when he's busy. which is all the time.

Here's some characters that were in the back of my mind when I was designing Schubert. Susie for the hair color, The De Spell twins for the hair color (again) and gloves, Chidori Yoshino mainly for the boots and Joker persona 5's influence will be made more evident in a future post (trust).

So. Franz Schubert.

If you didn't pick up on it yet, yes, he does follow the musical artist naming convention. I tried basing his appearance on other portraits of Franz Schubert but It's didn't capture the vibe I was going for so I decided to base it off a younger portrait of Franz Schubert's. Somberesque is supposed to have glasses but he lost them a long time ago.

Why Franz Schubert?

Well, I have only a two reasons. So I really like five nights at freddy's and that game is apart of the reason that classical music seeps into my personal playlist. My favorite song from fnaf is Shadow Bonnie's Lullaby which is basically a music box cover for Schubert's Serenade. So when I was thinking about which classical music artist to loosely base his design off of my mind immediately jumped to him.

Also, Franz Schubert lived in close proximity to Ludwig Van Beethoven so I figured. Yea. Schubert 🔥
