Schoolbag song (originally: De nehéz az iskolatáska) 2025 Watercolour and ink on paper

A conversation I recently had about childhood romances reminded me of a song, well known in Hungary. The song is about a little boy who is considering whether he should go to school, which he doesn't feel like because it's a very nice sunny day, or if he should play hooky; then suddenly he sees a little girl, and immediately gets a crush on her, so he decides to follow her instead. Disappointingly (though unsurprisingly), it turns out the little girl is going to school too ("This day is ruined!"). But from then on, they always walk to school together, and he does so much more happily now that he has a little sweetheart to go with.
