Doroga, out for a cruise!Β Man I have come to love this little guy so damn much. I confess I let him out more than my otherΒ scalyΒ bebes as he's such a pathetic slithererΒ he can't really go far, nor does he have legs for random kamikaze leaps into the abyss (ahem, Miss Beardie). I plop him on my desk or on my bed and he pretty much pokes around there until I pluck him up again. Keeps me company, and I don't have to worry about him wandering off onto the floor.
I know I haven't posted since the late jurassic but I have to talk about this because I'm still freaking out. Please meet Beleza, who was an early Christmas present from my parents!Β
Brazilian rainbow boas are goddamn gorgeous snakes, probably one of the most beautiful animals in the world. It's tough to capture on camera but they have a stunning iridescence that grows with age, along with their red color (hopefully--reports on that one seem to vary). Of course I think all my bebes are lovely but it's really tough putting Bel away, haha. All I want to do is staaaaare at the rainbows. But she's a sweet little thing, took her all of five days to decide "yeah, I got this" and get to coasting around on her own outside the cage like she owns the place. She doesn't even flinch if you touch her head.Β
Doroga, on the other hand, is highly vexed by his sudden neighbor. For the first week he basically lived in that corner to glare with all his lizardy might at the new arrival. I could tell when she was exploring, because Doroga would start banging around his cage, trying to climb up and get a better view. Little dork has since calmed down but he still takes time out of his daily rounds to give her the stinkeye.Β

So far Doroga's been super cool! I found a tiny frying pan at Goodwill and immediately knew this was going to be his new feeding dish. Those are freeze-dried crickets up there, and he's happily eaten whatever I give him, from scrambled eggs to fuzzies to ground turkey. People aren't kidding when they say scheltys will eat aaaaaaanyting haha. After owning a python who'll refuse a rat because she can't find its head in her own coils, and a beardie who takes naps in her salads and then looks pleasantly intrigued when I wave a leaf in front of her face, having a reptile who's actually intelligent about his food is a nice change. Β
