Not far from where I live, there used to be a lot of mines, mostly for iron but also copper, zink and lead. In my early teens, I was an avid collector of minerals. The fascination is still there. Today while cycling, I came past the long overgrown tip of an old copper mine. I found some malachite and other stuff. Under my stereo microscope, actual malachite crystals were revealed.

Cycled up the valley of the small river Schelde today. There used to be lots of iron mines there up until the late 1960s. My granddad used to work in the one above, the "Grube Herrnberg". Sadly, the remaining buildings are decaying now. The other photos are of the "Wilhelmsteine", a formation of rocks in the forest near Tringenstein, and the view from that village.
