mainly this song relates to her for her academic overachieving tendencies, and her perpetual insecurity of always being different and sticking out.

i originally tried to write a little scene compilation based on this song. I'm actually thinking about finishing that. but anyway this made me envision hermione before hogwarts when she was like maybe 8-10 years old like before she got her letter, maybe a scene where she's still getting ridiculed and bullied in elementary school even before knowing she's a witch. also "pulling out my hair" just makes me think of her frustration with her bushy hair too. this could also lowkey go with harry too, considering that even though the wizarding world was a a place he could finally belong in, it was also a world that made him go through so much trauma. so was he really "meant to feel happy" that his life would go through so many changes the day he got that letter? i wonder if you ask him now if he would go back or not, what he would say. the "pulling out my hair" part also makes me think of his perpetually messy hair and the scene where he unintentionally grew it back when he was scared of going to school practically bald.

specifically i'm only gonna talk about the beginning of these lyrics that say that the speaker pretends to be satisfied but isn't truly content. now i think of how maybe hermione believed initially that all her knowledge and excessive studying would automatically be enough, but she grew through the years to learn it takes more than that. it reminds me of the line in the movie where she goes, "me? books and cleverness? there are more important things. like friendship, bravery," you know? the rest of the lyrics could maybe connect to how hermione consistent and persistent with her hard work while most times almost everybody around her said she was being excessive and a know-it-all. it could also relate to ron always being laid-back and making jokes when he really has billions of worries with his friendships, his marks, with his feelings for hermione, etc. but idk.

this HAS to be self-explanatory bro. although i don't really see hermione as the bossy type. this is also random but the beginning where it says "it's my problem" also makes me think of a scene that probably happened at least once where ron might've said it was "her fault she's so stressed/overloaded (especially in third year)" because of all her overachievement

:(( this makes me think of her first year again (obviously ignoring the smoking and drinking) like y'all really don't know how it feels to be a girl with no friends crying in a school bathroom bc of how much u don't fit in i kin her so bad. also one thing i don't connect hermione to this song with that i have to make clear, i don't think hermione is an overachiever for satisfaction but because she genuinely just wants to. she wants and needs to explore and involve herself with as much of the wizarding world as possible. i say that's valid, especially if you're a muggleborn girl, you should do everything in your hands to make sure you get a place in your world, and ESPECIALLY in a time of voldemort. that kinda reminds me of how important knowledge and education is in a fascist world (America is going to shit i had to say something.)

for this song, i think of all three of my children (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) this is mainly just about their adolescent years.

as the trio grew, they got their own responsibilities and freedoms, which simultaneously came as burdens. you teach yourself new defensive spells and reach higher levels of magic? death eaters already know them, are even more skilled, and almost kill your best friends. you aced your NEWTS and can probably explore more careers? no, now you get to focus on defeating voldemort for the next year. you're of age now, so you can apparate and use magic right? a dark wizard can follow along and maybe cause you to splinch yourself. the whole situation seems so unfair; they should've gotten to be normal wizarding teenagers.

the older the trio gets, the more danger they experienced every year. hogwarts didn't give them the same comfort and childlike curiosity and exploration in first year as it did the last year or during the war. in the first year, the three were only concerned with settling into their new magical world, but in sixth year, every moment they had was spoiled by the danger of the death eaters. harry couldn't be a normal teenager because at 16 he had to worry about the secret tool to defeating a dark lord :(. and i really feel like after sixth year, ron and hermione had a big chance to go through what they wanted with each other together, but they couldn't pay any mind to what their relationship could be BECAUSE they had to worry about harry and voldemort's fate. the burden must've been suffocatinggg.

even though friendship was one of the most important things the golden trio needed to make it through all their challenges, i know for sure that after the war, every happy moment they had together was probably dampened by the thought of how all the war's victims took away their bright futures and their happiness :( but still, their friendship was one of the strongest i've ever seen and it kept them alive
