The last 36 hours have been a Rollercoaster: about 1 am, I started having severe abdominal pains. 2 hours later, I was on my way to the hospital in an ambulance. Got drugs, had a CT, and they found an intestinal blockage inside of a hernia. Prepped for surgery, went in at noon, got out at 3, and they cleared the blockage and the hernia issues. More drugs. Still feel like hell from the anesthetic. Had a food, then somehow slept through the night in a room across from the nurses station. Woke up sore, talked to my very nice surgeon from the USVI, and talked about him taking a biopsy of the mass the size of a tangerine that came from near my belly button. White cell count normal, so my parental figure came and picked me up. Yall, im exhausted, and glad my boss has given me this rotation off. And I'm glad we caught this one in time.
I dont admit fear very often, and I know it's nowhere near the pain of child birth, but that was the worst I'd ever had in my life. 8/10 on my scale, and even my mom said, "I knew it was bad because you called an ambulance".
I'm home now, armed with some apple sauce and YouTube, trying to rest. But holy crap, what a 36 hrs. I don't think that it's all sunk in quite yet, because this is the kinda stuff that kills people, and that's twice this year that I've dodged a bullet. All that I know is that right now I'm sore, tired, and (thankfully) gassy.
Much love yall, and thanks for listening.
