Does anyone have any opinions of the Ricoh (formerly Fujitsu) ScanSnap SV600 book scanner, or info on how to use it effectively?

I actually did get one to use on a trial basis, but, genius that I am, ended up with a very small window in which I have to determine whether to keep this very expensive machine.  Like, a day.

I wanted to use it for three things:

a) Scanning a four-part Lunar doujin series I've mentioned previously (Heaven’s Corridor, one person’s fanfic sequel to Vane Airship) b) Yun Kouga's Clock Tower: Ghost Head/The Struggle Within manga, from two phone book-thick manga magazines c) and I had an idea of scanning the entirety of the Angelique fan magazine LoveLove Tsuushin. All 38 volumes (I don’t have the EX specials).

Quick tests show that the tight binding on a) is giving the machine a bit of trouble but that it's doing a surprisingly good job with b), though that may be because the binding is more broken and flexible than I thought, so the pages can lay almost flat.  On c), it's doing a good enough job where I wish it did better, bluntly.  The degree to which the software can correct page distortion is impressive, but there's still some waviness left on complex layouts, and true to warnings I'd read that the SV600 had trouble with glossy pages, and the colors  washed out.  That said, these were quick and dirty tests; I obviously don't know how to get the most out of the device yet.
