⁣ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+⁣ Taken on 25/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ 'One of the most beautiful staircases in the world, with two side flights, adorned with magnificent architecture'.⁣ ⁣ Those are the words of Charles De Brosses written in 1740, words that joined a chorus of unreserved admiration expressed by travellers on the Grand Tour who visited Turin in the 18th century.⁣ ⁣ The monumental staircase, which is about 12 metres across and crowned by a barrel vault at a height of more than 20 metres, was made to a design by architect Filippo Juvarra in just three years, from 1718 to 1721.⁣ ⁣ Commissioned by Maria Giovanna Battista of Savoy-Nemours, the second Madama Reale and mother of King Vittorio Amedeo II, its construction was initially prompted by ceremonial considerations: the cramped spiral staircase in the southern tower of the ancient Acaja Castle was totally unsuitable for the palace and by no means worthy of the pomp and splendour required by the Royal dowager.
