I found out the other day that scali bread is only a thing in the Boston area and i feel SO bad for the rest of the country. Apparently it was the Scali family’s bread recipe, and that’s WILD cause i didn’t know there was even a Scali family and they are now royalty to me.
For those who aren’t aware, scali bread is the italian american standard for white bread where i’m from. If you’re making toast or sandwiches or even have bread at the table with a meal, it’s usually scali bread. It’s not full of sugar like grocery store white breads, and we usually get it fresh from bakeries which is even less sweet. Growing up with it as the normal bread around the house has made standard american breads nasty to me, I can only ever tolerate them for toast—white bread sandwiches are like eating deli meats with cake to me it’s gross.
Americans not knowing the state of their white bread is a travesty scali bread goated thank you for coming to my ted talk—and OH winter hill bakery in somerville is the best bakery btw
Scali bread is hella good.
