Well, another Santa Barbara Writers Conference come and gone.
It’s like both a family and alumni reunion at the same time. Except you actually go be a family and take all your favorite classes again to remind yourself why it was so important to you. And, you know, it’s living and breathing the writeblr tag for a week.
I definitely think one of the larger regrets of my life is going to be having been “reasonable” and not attending from 2002 to 2018. 16 missed wonderful years.
The downside is that we still live in the age of Covid. I feel fine and haven’t tested yet but I would definitely classify myself as at high risk now. 1 person went home Wednesday. 4 people went home Thursday. And the allergy attack one of my own subgroup was having at our table last night turned out to be covid and as of now at least two of us have it.
So, I am locked up in my room and I have now contacted everyone I can, I think. And now I’ll rest and try and figure out what to do next. Probably figure out about getting tested. And dream that it’s next year so I can go right back.
