Vought V-156F, an export variant of the SB2U Vindicator dive bomber intended for the French Navy. They began arriving in France in July 1939, and trained aboard the carrier BΓ©arn, but as the ship was deemed too slow for combat, the V-156Fs were used from land bases during the Battle of France.

From right to left, in the first row: heavy cruiser USS Vincennes (CA-44), liner USS West Point (AP-23), liner USS Mount Vernon (AP-22) and USS Wakefield (AP-21).
In the middle of the second row is the heavy cruiser USS Quincy (CA-39). In the second row are the transports USS Leonard Wood (AP-25) and USS Joseph T. Dickman (AP-26).

A Vindicator dive bomber (Vought SB2U-2 Vindicator, serial number 1376), from Scouting Squadron 72 (VS-72), is lowered into the hangar of the aircraft carrier USS Wasp (CV-7) using an onboard aircraft elevator. June 1940
The aircraft elevator consisted of a platform for the nose landing gear and an outrigger for the tail wheel. Two beams on the sides moved the platform along a semicircular path between the flight deck and the hangar
