Wide awake
Jackson was shoved awake roughly, the cold front taking over the city making it's way inside his window and creeping up his spine, a light groan pushing from his lips as he grabbed a pillow closer, burrowing his face in it. The waft of stale coffee and cigarettes washed over him, raining in from the city outside and penetrating his little world. It brought him back to coffee shops, to open mike nights and bars. To the month and a half he spent with Amanda when he followed her. His lips stung with the harshness of not being on hers, the impression of his bed sinking in only one spot making him realize just how alone he was. He couldn't help but think what might've happened if he'd stayed. She could be with him. And maybe that coffee would small fresh and the nicotine wouldn't be needed for his aching heart.Â
