it’s one of those days where the pups are all occupied back at the main den; chasing fallen leaves or their own fluffy tails, sticking close to the fire and the warmth it provides in newly-present winter. games to occupy them means that seokjin is on his own tearing through the dense forestation. well... “tearing” may be too harsh a term. “leisurely trotting” is a much better descriptor, considering the way his large paws hit the cold-hardened ground is anything but hurried. very rarely does he have to hurry at all considering his pack is a peaceful one that doesn’t encounter a lot of trouble. a strange figure here and there grazing the perimeter of their turf, yes, but no creature sticks around long enough to initiate challenge. not once in seokjin’s long lifetime has he faced such a peril within the confines of his quiet life. their quiet life, in the woods. in the meadow.
it’s the chocolate wolf’s favorite place to frequent. in the summer, its lush grass is best for rolling around in and, since it’s out in the open, the sun shines down to warm everything it touches. even in winter, very little snow remains clinging to the ground. though the greenery is somewhat stifled and browned with the season, it’s still good. perfect for him to flop onto his side and stretch his long legs out, pointed muzzle yawning wide to reveal a jagged row of teeth. ones he won’t be actively trying to use any time soon. unless another rounded bunny is so kind as to jump in front of him again.
heavy-lined eyes are just about to start drooping when the wind shifts.
and promptly alerts him to a new scent in the air.
now, seokjin knows there are other packs around these parts. it’d be naive to think they’re the only ones, but this particular wolf is close. as in, rounding the very tree line in front of him close. jin has never been quicker on his feet. his tail lowers down, soft pelt bristling. waiting for the presence ( the decidedly alpha presence, great ) to reveal itself.
