something ive been wondering lately: did the alien aisha kind of kick off this recent alien animals trend?
from what ive seen, it seems like the alien aisha came out back in the early 2000s, then within the past few years people started doing the green cat with antennae thing in a way that was obviously meant to evoke nostalgia for neopets, and then the generic green animal with antennae aliens trend kinda came about. it could just be my corner of the internet, but i dont recall seeing this style of alien animals much prior to this period, especially before the early 2000s.
do you have any insight here? are my suspicions correct, or have i just missed certain earlier pop culture phenomena?

this is Bear. she has two thumbs on each front paw, and eyes and a belly that are equally round. she was born all alone on the side of the road in florida. her favorite activities include swatting at you as you walk by, chewing cardboard, bullying other cats to steal their treats and catnip, and sitting on her hind legs like a weird meercat. as a rescue ive always wondered what breed she is, any ideas?
The breed is actually known for that unique behavior, known as Meercats or Florida Meerkats to avoid confusion with the African wildlife.
Burrowers in their natal home they’re known for chewing on cardboard to satisfy that habit in a domestic setting. It is common to find them in laundry piles or under the covers.
