As expected, Marissa Mayer is creating a good team around her before trying to make any significant changes to Yahoo!'s strategy. The latest of these additions is Kathy Savitt. While Kathy has held quite a few consulting and executive roles, many believe her venture as the founded of Lockerz to be the highlight of her career. That Marissa Mayer would want Kathy to completely rebrand Yahoo! is the common expectation. What remains to be seen, is the new focus/strategy that Yahoo! will follow to lift itself from the depths of obscurity. Kathy Savitt will definitely not be the only senior executive that Marissa would bring in to revamp Yahoo!, however, it is also worth thinking if significant changes are needed at the lower level. Can Yahoo!'s engineers stand up to those of Google and Facebook? After all, senior management can only provide direction, the game changing innovations almost always come from the staff. May be acqui-hiring some good teams would solve some of Yahoo!'s problems?
