I take vacations even though my fibromyalgia doesn't.
It was only 5 miles. The walk I had planned... I like to call it a hike to make me feel more outdoorsy but lets be honest. It was a slow. Sloooooow walk.
My boyfriend shortening his stride, keeping pace with his snail of a girlfriend. Reminding me that we could stop and rest.
" Need to stop for a break babe? It's ok, lets sit for a bit."
But I don't want to stop, I just want to walk the trail and enjoy this beautiful place like everyone else.
Picking this part of the national park because it was listed how strollers were able to make the trek…if only my feet had wheels. I imagine the ruts they make as I drag them one step after another, all the strollers to come behind me will have an easy ride.
Making it to the second waterfall and knowing I'd never make it to the third-that was a really shitty moment. Not standing at the waterfall, not taking my time to enjoy the view but knowing the adventure was pretty much over for the day and that I'd hurt myself to do it. One strained hip flexor and shin splints in both legs meant the next couple of days of vacation were going to hurt.
That was 4 days ago. Today was my first day back at work and it…well it was hell. Every step was pain. At least I wasn't audibly whimpering anymore. That only lasted about 48 hrs.
Taking care of myself for the next week will help to get my body back on track- stretching, staying hydrated, fueling my body not feeding it, Epsom salt bath, lots of breaks at work and rest at home.
Paying in spoons and saving up for the next adventure.
