Tangmo, one of the Bengal lorises (Nyticebus bengalensis), enjoying banana and crickets for day-feed at the sanctuary. We are now caring for over 70 lorises. 3 of which are Pygmy lorises (Nycticebus pugmaeus), and 4 are baby Bengal lorises. Lorises are extremely popular as illegal exotic pets, and can be found being used as a photo prop at local markets here in Thailand. Many have their teeth clipped to prevent them from defending themselves, and those that do will remain in captivity as they are unlikely to survive in the wild. Here at the sanctuary we offer care and rehabilitation for lorises confiscated from the illegal trade, and we are working towards the release of those individual lorises that are healthy enough to return to the wild. It costs us 500THB (around £12) to care for one loris each month, that's around £10,000 for all our lorises annually! We are always looking for help in our work, and you can get involved in any number of ways: . We are always offering events, activities and tours in Thailand to raise funds for our projects. Whether you'd prefer whale-watching, or hands-on research into marine plastic pollution and the opportunity to snorkel on an island; if you're planning a holiday in Thailand then check out our site for what's on! http://lovewildlife.org . Material donations. The majority of our lorises are confiscated pets, and find blankets and soft toys comforting. We are also in need of specific medicinal donations.
