So I have mentioned before that I go dumpster diving and find clothes that I turn into rugs, scarves, and other things. One of the things that I constantly find when diving are these t-shirts that are made for businesses or for single events.

I have seen countless church shirts in the trash. Birthday shirts, AIDs run shirts, breast cancer awareness, etc. They are rarely worn more than a few times before they are tossed, and a lot of the time they look like they have never been worn at all.

Each cotton t-shirt uses about 713 gallons (2700 liters) of water and releases 15kg of carbon into the atmosphere. Which says nothing of labor violations, physical waste, and the fact that t-shirts tend to be 50% polyester.

Polyester is a form of plastic that leaches into the water supply with every wash and creates microplastics.

This is just a wasteful thing to do. If you want to sell something with your logo on it, maybe consider a coffee mug or a cell phone case. It is more likely to be used, and won’t be as harmful to the environment. Better yet, don’t sell pointless branded things, period.
