🚨 Tragedy in Protest: Farmer Consumes Pesticide-Laced Rice Bath in Bengaluru Rural District
A wave of tension and heartbreak swept through Channarayapatna village in Devanahalli taluk as a peaceful farmers’ protest took a tragic turn. A local farmer, overwhelmed by despair, consumed pesticide-laced rice bath (chitranna) in a drastic act of protest against the government’s land acquisition plans.
The protest, organized by farmers from 13 villages, was in opposition to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board’s (KIADB) decision to acquire over 1,700 acres of fertile agricultural land for industrial development. For many, these lands are not just property — they’re their lifeline, passed down for generations.
🧑🌾 A Cry for Help Turned Tragic
In a symbolic and emotional act, the protesting farmers prepared rice bath and deliberately mixed it with pesticide, expressing their frustration and sense of helplessness. Though the police were quick to confiscate the contaminated food, one farmer, Venkatesh, consumed a portion before intervention.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital and is currently reported to be out of danger, but the incident has shocked both locals and the larger farming community.
💬 Farmers Demand Justice, Not Displacement
Farmers have been opposing this project since 2022, fearing not only displacement but also the loss of fertile land that sustains their livelihood. The recent final notification from KIADB sparked renewed anxiety, prompting the large-scale protest.
Many believe the development plans are being fast-tracked without proper consultation, compensation, or consideration for environmental and human impact.
🔒 Police Action Adds to Tension
As the protest intensified, farmers tried to meet District Minister KH Muniyappa to voice their concerns. However, police forces blocked their way, detained several protestors, and restricted access to government officials — fueling further anger and desperation.
⚖️ What Experts Say
Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice V. Gopala Gowda, criticized the government’s approach, questioning the urgency of acquiring fertile farmland without a clear industrial development policy. He called for accountability, proper rehabilitation measures, and respect for farmers’ rights.
🧠 A Wake-Up Call for Policymakers
This incident is more than just a protest — it’s a desperate plea from a community that feels unheard and unseen. The government’s push for rapid industrialization must be balanced with transparent policy, fair compensation, and most importantly, human dignity.

It is important for citizens, particularly in countries like India, Indonesia, etc where agriculture is a key industry, to understand the negative consequences of industrial farming 🔗 https://www.instagram.com/reel/CxyRmtMI_7u/?igshid=NmQ4MjZlMjE5YQ== and the infringement on farmers' freedom of choice 🔗 https://www.instagram.com/reel/CxOQB4zIECz/?igshid=NmQ4MjZlMjE5YQ== . This ongoing conflict must be acknowledged and addressed by the public, urging our government to take action. If we want to ensure that our food and water remain free from control in the future and prevent more farmer suicides, it is crucial that we treat this issue with great seriousness. Supporting local farmers and protecting our environment, especially our soil, is paramount. Failure to do so could result in an unhealthy population and indirectly benefit certain industries at the expense of citizens, much like the situation with the COVID-19 vaccine #protectfarmers #savesoil #awareness #takeaction #sacredtrinitydigiagency
When I recently watched a video featuring Sivaji sir and R Sethuraman sir, among other famous actors, from the Tamil movie Pazhani 🔗 https://www.facebook.com/reel/214565721436356?sfnsn=wiwspwa&mibextid=LYESl6 it highlighted an ongoing issue in India: farmers are leaving their profession due to poverty, unfair debts, unfair pricing, lack of recognition, and lack of access to grants passed for them in the budget. This brings up an important question: what will happen when there is a food crisis in a country? The answer is that we will be dependent on other countries for food, leading to inflation and unrest. Farmers, good scientists, and genuine priests are divine professions — "As you sow, so shall you reap". Without these people, any country will plunge into deep darkness. I hope the governments will do the needful to encourage & protect their interest's!! #respectfarmers #savefarmers #sustenance #fairprice #sacredtrinitydigiagency
When I came across this video 🔗 >https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0ZtQuyrfxXWMxf7L2UQYGrwGTdWEzJqA3qt81vhuDH9v1zagBqZd9T9YmVwo5Nnttl&id=100004994888362&sfnsn=wiwspwa&mibextid=RUbZ1f , My heart went out being a 3rd generation rubber planter that I had to address about the challenges faced by farmers in India and the importance of recognizing and supporting them. Agriculture is a vital sector that sustains the population and contributes to the economy of the country. Farmers indeed face various difficulties, including unfair pricing, lack of recognition, limited access to subsidies and benefits, and other forms of exploitation.
It is crucial for the government and society as a whole to acknowledge the hardships faced by farmers and take steps to address their concerns. This can be done through policy reforms, ensuring fair pricing for agricultural produce, improving access to subsidies and support programs, and implementing measures that safeguard the interests of farmers.
As individuals, we can also contribute by raising awareness about the challenges faced by farmers, supporting initiatives that promote fair trade and sustainable farming practices, and making conscious choices to buy produce directly from farmers or through fair trade channels when possible.
It's important to recognize and appreciate the efforts of farmers who work tirelessly to feed the nation and sustain our lives. By valuing their contributions and advocating for their rights, we can collectively contribute to a more equitable and sustainable agricultural system #farmer #farmerlife #respectfarmers #protectfarmers #rightstofarmers #sacredtrinitydigiagency

Farm Life • Myk Martinez - Painting them while we still have them. Sadly, It feels like we are losing more and more of our beautiful farms. Possibly due to aging farmers or poor economy… I’m not sure. But they are an important and beautiful part or our lives and culture.
